How do you guys transport your bike? I’m looking for ideas. I have a small garage with limited space length wise which rules out hitch rack and have a normal 7 foot high garage door. Was leaning towards tailgate pad but I would probably end up leaving it on all summer as I ride 2-3x a week on trails that I can’t ride to. Photo below of my new Sight.

beautiful Norco. Which bike is that? Tailgate pads are a good option. You can just remove it periodically whenever you want to wash the truck. Some people leave them on but I always worry about dirt and debris getting stuck underneath it. So remove for washing is an easy way to protect the tailgate. I also use a hitch rack, which I definitely prefer. I specially chose one I could lock in the hitch and has a way to lock the bike.

Thanks, it’s a 2020 sight A3 29”. I also, didn’t think about that. I would like to be able to lock it so that I can take it took work to ride after.

I did use a bike lock through the frame of the bike, and used a padlock to lock the bike lock to a D ring in the bed. It wasn’t the greatest, but it felt more secure than a bike just sitting on my tailgate. The hitch racks cost a lot more but you can get a little more security in the form of integrated locking devices

And the sight is a ripper, enjoy your new steed!

I would not leave my bike outside on a rack, even locked, all day at work. That's just too much time for someone to figure out how to break your lock and steal your bike or take parts off of your bike.

To answer your original question...tailgate pads are definitely the easiest, cheapest, quickest, arguably most secure, and (in my opinion) best way to transport your bike. If you aren't using the bed of the truck for other things, go with a tailgate pad.

    Nice NORCO!
    Here is my SIGHT C1 29 ('19)
I've not seen many Norcos on here... I was not all that familiar with Norco until I test rode a few... That was the end of the search!
I believe yours is a bit slacker... (as a 2020) It Looks great - I have ZERO Complaints (I like to climb!) but I'd be curious to ride that Geometry...
    - Enjoy the ride!

Thanks! I rode a hardtail for a few years and this is my first full suspension. Extremely happy with my choice. I don’t have much to compare to other than the enduro and downhill bikes I’ve rented at bike parks but it climbs really good. I’m still dialing in the settings but so far but it’s amazing.

Does anybody use those outboard bike mounts without a bed rack? Was also thinking of installing a fork mount and a front rail.

This is my Jamis Gravel bike and a few others headed to Pawleys Island SC. Was hoping to ride but Tropical storm Bertha is passing through. Still beats working though....

What’s with the mountain biking scene in Nashville? None of the bike shops seemed to carry mountain bikes. Not many good trails close by? I’d think it’d be a good place to ride, but maybe I’m spoiled with all the public lands in the southwest vs. mostly private in TN.

There's always the re-paint color change option. ;) I also like that color and am bummed it wasn’t offered when I bought mine.

Built a PVC bike stand for the bed of my long Taco. Excited to be able put more than one bike in the bed with the front wheels on! I still plan to strap the bikes down when I actually drive the truck somewhere with them in the bed.

I started with a Turquoise frame but cracked it so this was a warranty replacement. :anonymous:

I do like the color I have, just like that gray color better.

Take a look on trailforks. It's a trail barren desert.

There's a lot of "super bikes" near me but that's also what the market tends to. What size are you? These are all within 100 miles of me.

I'll second the votes for Crested Butte and Angle Fire. South Boundary trail (Angle Fire to Taos) is an amazing "epic" ride. There is lots of good stuff in Santa Fe too. Bring your best set of lungs, the air is thin up there. If you are riding in NM let me know and I may be able to line you up with a friend. August is no time to be in the desert. On your way back hit SLC/Park City area and stay high rather than mess with St. George or Moab. Wasatch Crest and Ben Lomond are a couple of my personal favorites. If you can swing it head to Stanley, ID before making your way over to Jackson/Yellowstone. Ride Little Casino to Big Casino, then soak in a hot spring. In Jackson hit the Pass. It's easy to hitch rides up if you want or you can pedal up the walking path. Ride Black Canyon and Phillip's Ridge for more traditional stuff or any of the other trails for more tech and jumps.

The 1up hitch rack folds up really well. Doesn’t add too much space. If you have about 1ft between the rear bumper and garage door it might work.
