Hey Guys, I just added a SOS Concepts front bumper and winch to my 2013 Tacoma OR. I have OME suspension with 885's. The suspension has about 80,000 miles on it and has been great. I have been thinking of going with the ICON extended travel c/o. Any major issues with them? How have they been in the long run and how often do they need maintenance?

    Thanks

the only "issue" that Ive read, was that if you jump the truck, the top hat (part that mounts the to the frame on top) could break. Why not check out King or Fox or another rebuildable coilover? They are all about the same (if not Icon is a little higher because of their different stages). The maintenance schedule is similar too.. Something like 50k street only miles to rebuild, 30k/20k on/off road, or 10k off road only.

Looking into FOX, Kings just seem high and I feel the ICONs are more adjustable and I was looking at extended travel coil overs.

Also really have no plans to Jump the truck, and if I do something really bad happened.

They all are going to have the same maintenance needed. That being said, I have been running mine for 11 years with no issues at all. I am going to rebuild them this summer because as I am installing new kits onto new trucks I have noticed that maybe mine are feeling as "tight" as the new ones. So even though I have no external leaking of the oil, I may have some internal o-rings or seals that need to be replaced. And the parts are cheap and the labor is easy to rebuild them. The hardest part will be getting the nitrogen refilled. But I have a source for that as well. The main difference between Icon and the other companies is the valving. Everyone else uses Progressive valving and Icon uses Digressive valving. I personally think Digressive is the only way to go. It rides a bit stiffer like a truck but as you hit the bigger bumps it softens up to soak them bumps up. Progressive valving rides soft and then as you hit the bigger bumps it stiffens up. Obviously they both work, but to me I think about riding a rigid bike and hitting a big bump. Would you stiffen you arms and legs as you hit it or do you relax your arms and legs and use your elbows and knees to absorb some the bump? That is just how my mind thinks about it and I have been very very very happy with Icon for over 20 years on multiple vehicles so it works in my head. And I am not easy on my truck and its suspension. My truck gets used for about everything. High speed desert runs, slow crawling, two track trails, gravel roads, highway, daily driver and very heavy towing. So if Icon can last through that, they are quality in my mind.

Thanks for that. I think I am actually leaning towards a Dobinson Kit. Mainly to use the saved money for other mods, and 2 I really don't need a suspension system that needs maintenance every 30,000 or less. I am sure they are great and I would love to try them out, but my schedule is pretty tight and right now my truck is my daily driver. Anyone have thoughts or experiences with Dobinson.

I bough them in 2006 when they were called Donahoe. In 2014 I sent them to Icon to be rebuilt and converted to extended travel, remote resi, and CDC valve. They are still working fine right now but original Donahoe coil spring rusting.

I have had mine on with coil covers from them, for about 5 years now. they are in near perfect condition and they have been on for 45k miles so far. I plan to rebuild them within a couple of months. No complaints from me OTHER THAN, if you do NOT have a front bumpe/any weight up front, get a pair of fox silver coils (600lb 13") and swap them out for the icon 650 lb 13". It will improve your ride. Its not hard to do yourself and also, people will buy the original springs immediately (people use them and theyre sought after).
