Nope. I plan on returning my HF stands and will get another pair and still use them.

 

Trying to fix a

$13 M12X1.25 mm Self-Locking Nylon Insert Hex Lock Nuts, Pack of 6

M12X1.25 bolt (caliper/spindle bolt). Anybody has a tap & die set with that size? Cheapo Freight and Amazon specials don't come with that size.

 

You got a Fastenall in you area? They would be my 1st try.

 

NAPA had the tap I needed way back when I had to chase out a tow hook bolt hole.

 

I bought that tap at my local Ace Hardware. It was an Irwin brand.

 

Irwin taps are pretty good if you can find one locally- try Napa if Ace doesn't have one. If not, McMaster Carr is a great source but you'll pay almost as much in UPS as you will for the tap.

 

You'll love them. I'm all for pins in this instance.

They are good motors, my brother in law replaced a small skid steer with one and works the hell out of it. If it acts up return and replace.

 

I've been wanting to build a 2x72 belt grinder for some time. But, like everything else, projects pile up, and eventually something has to give. So, I broke down and bought a HF 1x3 belt sander. $56 shipped to my door, which is cheaper than I could buy it in the store.

After the Fedex guy literally threw it onto the porch (right in front of my wife), I got home to find it was apparently undamaged. Plug it in, and it won't turn on. Take the cover off to spin the belt/pulleys by hand, and now it works, but makes a racket and jumps all over the bench. The spring loaded idler is frozen in place, and I can't get the belt off, or adjust tracking. As with a lot of HF stuff, you aren't buying a finished product, but more like a kit of parts. At this point I disassembled and cleaned the whole thing. I find several screws not properly tightened, one for the motor cross threaded, the tensioner cranked down way too tight, and the main pulley not installed properly. After reassembly, it now works, is much quieter, and doesn't vibrate. The included belt absolutely sucks. The seam is so badly joined, it catches on whatever you're sanding.

New, quality belts from Klingspor solved this. $17 buys a dozen belts in various grits.

 

You got what you paid for, unfortunately.....

 

Anyone use the auger? Making a gazebo/pergola and over digging in the hard vegas dirt. Has good reviews.

 

Rent one at home depot.

 

Yeah rent one. If you really want to own one I highly recommend one with a brake. The ones without will leave you bruised and with broken wrists.
Or better yet a stand on skid steer with an auger attachment. But that is probably overkill for your job..

 

Does anyone have any experience with the HF gun safe? I really need one and I’m thinking about getting one of theirs.

This would be a whole conversation in itself, but nothing they sell is really a "safe". At best it's a lock box to keep your kids out of.
