Came up on a ratty 1984 Gremlin sitting at a red light the other day. Light turned green and I literally smoked him off the line. He had no chance.... but then I don't really think he was trying. Prolly saw I was in a Tacoma and let me have the win :D

Not the diesel crap again! People for whatever reason are like HEY! We want a diesel. So US manufactures start bring them in, only to find people who want them don’t really need them, and don’t want to pay the extra upfront costs, maintenance costs, fuel cost, and lose on the resale. In several more years you’ll be lucky to have a engine option when everything is electric.

Oh there's a market. Ford, chevy and dodge sell plenty of diesels and there are plenty of Tundra owners including myself that if had the option of the reliability of the Tundra and the ultra strong and reliable diesels they're throwing in Toyotas everywhere else in the world you would see them everywhere here.

Yes but isn't life about having things we dont need? I bet you have a few thing you spent money on and dont really need. The extra upfront cost is recovered when resold, fuel cost are lower as the diesel gets better mpg than the 5.7, maintenance costs are no more than a gas engine not to mention a well maintained diesel can roll a million miles and electric vehicle taking over is not happening anytime soon. Lol:rofl:

Diesel is on it's way out...worldwide buddy. The emissions are too difficult to control. I think the new Tundra will be turboed (yes, our 3.5 from Tacoma) or hybrid...

On the way out world wide? Tell that to the freight moving industry, generator manufacturing companies, heavy equipment manufacturing, millions of those with 35' toy haulers, with a truck bed full of wood headed out to recreate. Lets not forget about the farming industry and the diesel equipment they use. Sorry not buying it. There's a reason diesel is used for all of this and more.

Even more ironic diesel is used to power the massive cooling fans used by all the coal burning plants that generate the electricity used to charge your electric vehicle.

I could honestly see diesel being on its way out for passenger vehicles. The EPA has a bad taste in its mouth for diesels after the whole VW debacle.

Not to me. And let’s not forget that the cost of the turbo isn’t even shitty part. The shitty part is how it blows and when it blows. It’s not going to ‘splode sitting in your driveway while you’re sippin claws Holmes. Who knows where you’ll be.

This. Freight requires diesel. Passenger vehicles don’t.

You can take the jagoff out of the 2 fast 2 furious world, but you can’t take the obsessive compulsion of being 2 fast and 2 furious out of said jag.

I don’t want to have something I think is a total burden and waste of time. The Tacoma isn’t a hauler. So I’m good.

Of course I have plenty of stuff I don’t need. I’m talking when people get all pumped up about something coming to market and then decide nah I’m not gonna buy that because I know it’s a waste, or decide to go the cheaper route or whatever. Lots of these people screaming for diesels are doing just that. It certainly cost more to maintain diesels, At least In the commercial world using them as an actual work truck. Perhaps a mid sized Toyota diesel would be different. As for fuel, well that really varies. Some areas diesel is cheaper. Others it’s more expensive. Where I live diesel is ~ $.30 more a gallon. Fuel economy usually is better with a diesel, especially running a tuner, so that’s a plus. You may recover some of the added expense from buying one when you sell it, there is still a lot of depreciation. Around my area usually they lose value faster than their gas counterparts.

Bottom line is it’s really a niche market. A diesel midsized in the US doesn’t make a lot of sense. A lot of people may claim they’d buy one, but when the time comes their money wouldn’t where their mouths were. Besides Toyota would do some dumb options that would shoot themselves in the foot. My guess is they would only offer it in a top model as an option, when in reality it would probably do better in the lower models. The good news is you won’t have to worry about it because it’s not going to happen.

And Most everything will be electric at some point. In the next few years the market is really going to start taking off and the infrastructure will really start to build up. Like it or not.

You don't need to be "racing" people to see the benefits of turbos. The high-strung nature of the 3.5 would be completely changed with a set of turbos. Instead of having to drop down two gears on the highway for a slight hill it could add a little boost, not increase RPM at all and casually go up the hill. I'd much prefer that... to each their own though.
