Why would it rust this fast . .. that's a big concern, if you replace it will that one rust just as fast?

 

Can you post a photo of your front coilovers as they sit now?

 

There has to be more going on. Springs dont just break like that. I imagine there is some serious coil bind happening, and a few things can cause that.

 

no binding, just 3yr old OEM fox's... made me go out and take pics, after ive been drinking,, but here they are.. note 2nd pic and tell me my 3/4 spacer caused my spring to do this.. northeast pa garage kept . my 4th tacoma,,2001 whish i still had it, 2014 off road, nice, 2015 pro better, 2017 pro, still have it 3 yrs later, what does that tell ya. love this truck.. cement rocks.. .

 

Damn dude. Being up north the garage doesn’t cut it. You gotta wash off the salt before you put it in the garage every now and then.
You got some really deep rust going all over that front end.

 

I’m about to start the project of cerakoting the bodies of my coilovers..they have minimal spot rust and discoloring..Looks like crap.

They are zinc plated, does anyone knows the best way to remove it to prep the surface for painting.

Sand blasting is what I had in mind, but seen acid used..

If I sand blast what blasting abrasive should be used?

 

i do wash it all the time, especially in the winter, its a tacoma thing, other brands dont rust like that around here,,

 

Sorta. The bodies of my Fox 2.5s, especially the threads, are heavily rusted but my coils are fine. Something compromised the coating of your coils and allowed salt to penetrate the surface - coil bind, chipping from road debris, etc.

 

im gonna spray all the rusted area's with something after new coilovers are installed, now im deciding on fox's or the kings, i like the blue. lol. they would look good with the cement color, and are cheaper then the fox ones. but still havnt decided, im sure they are equal except price. then ill have to decide on new UCA's, always decisions to make,

 

Icon UCAs have been great for me here in RI. The delta joint setup is easy maintenance.

looking at a coil replacement, dont wanna crank down the pre-load nut so far to get desired lift.. im stock on weight in front, im maxed out on pre-load according to fox and accutune.

what coil should i get? 14x600?

 

Yes, a 14x600 would be a good replacement to have less preload to get same lift height.

what’s the cost for a spring swap on the 2.5’s? I’m running a heavy front end (steel bumper, steel skids, winch, dual batteries, arb twin, etc..) I’m figuring I’d need 700lb springs.

Truck rode like crap today. The only difference was -180lbs from the bed.

I emptied the bed last night to make a mulch run. While, I expected the rear to be super stiff (on Icon RXT leafs, option 2) with an empty bed. What I didn’t expect is that the effects of a lift rear would compromise the front end so much.

What I figure, is that without bed weight the leafs are fully extended and top out on the rebound stroke and transfer the force to the front end.

Once I put my stuff back in the bed, it rides perfect again. @AccuTune Offroad can you comment on this?

 

Those full leaf packs are meant for a truck with constant weight, so if your truck is closer to stock weight it may ride stiff. DSC adjusters can help smooth it out a bit

 

Yep. My point exactly. I see many posts about an unhappy front end from many users, but nobody ever asks how the rear is set up. The point is, that a poorly configured rear can make the front feel bad and vice versa.

I purposely removed weight to go pick up a full load of mulch and it was the first time I had run with the bed empty. It was not pleasant.

* normal setup:bumper, skids, winch, sliders, and @200lbs in the bed on your Fox 2.5s front and rear with 14” 600 coils and RXT leafs in option2 configuration.

 

In general, its very common to over spring the suspension because owners want to lift their truck. We like to run a softer spring, and let the valving do the work.
