Honestly, their non-allocated cabinet was really well stocked with pretty fair pricing.

All the usual Michters options (American, Bourbon, Rye, and Sour Mash) all sub $50
    Bookers sub $70
    Bakers sub $55
    Eagle Rare at $30
    etc etc.

They're just proud of all their more rare stuff

Damn, this stuff is dark. In every. Single. Way. It's like a whiskey marinade... I feel like I should soak some pork chops in this stuff for some damn good dinner! Rich, herbaceous, salty-sweet, and overall intense! I dig it.

I've been drinking on a barrel selection done by The Whiskey Crusaders. Crazy dark. @Bigdaddy4760 has a bottle, too.

I'm working on a Pitfaced BBQ barrel selection when they are up and running for doing picks.

Stuff is crazy dark. I love it. Whiskey you can damn near chew.

I wish shops out here would pick their barrels. I'm just happy that my local shop got these standard single barrel bottles! It really is good stuff. To me it seems like a blend of Andalusia and Balcones distillery characters, but turned up a little bit. Man, I love the Texas whiskey scene!

If you ever see a bottle that is a "Store Pick" or has a sticker or something saying the barrel was selected for/by a store, club, or organization, it is a single barrel select, barrel pick, club pick or, more commonly, a store pick.

Many bourbons are batched, but groups can pay for a full barrel, then sample a bunch of different barrels, then have all of the bottles from that barrel stamped as their selection.

Lone Elm does some small barrels (like what @trekker has there), so the barrel pick I would be doing is out of 15 gallon barrels instead of 50 gallon barrels. Smaller yield, but smaller investment. It also means more of the whiskey interacts with the barrel (by ratio) and it takes on the barrel flavor faster. It's a reason those things are so dark after 5 years.

I'll organize a small group of folks to go visit the distillery, try a number of barrels, then pick our favorite and have it all bottled and shipped to the shop I organize it with (Texas laws say the bottles have to go through distribution).

But does it have to be a business or can it be a group or even an individual? I know if I wanted to buy a barrel of JD it's like $10k+ but I haven't sold enough cutting boards to foot that bill yet.

It's a shame that I can't order some Vampire Rub and a Bottle at the same damn time!!

Technically, here in Texas, the store has to buy it through a distributor, but if I showed up with $10k for a JD barrel, I don't think I'd have much trouble.

This barrel, being smaller, will be about $2,800. I have no doubt I can get commits on the ~40 bottles, so it won't be much risk for me. Bottles will still sell through the store, but I'll put down the up front cost and just get reimbursed for whatever sells - like a deposit.
