Well that one is tricky because jailbreaking requires software to be there in the first place. I don't really have any experience with 1st gen iPhone, and for good reason. When you plug it into a computer, does the display backlighting at least turn on, indicating that it's getting power? It may take a moment.

Hold the lock and the home button and count to 10, and then release the lock button and continue to hold the home button and count to 10 again. This puts the iPhone or iPod touch into recovery mode and a prompt SHOULD appear in iTunes.

 

This is not necessarily an Apple problem, but what I can say is that depending on the generation of your iPod and the voltage output of your deck's 30 pin dock connector, you may need a voltage converter like this one. That's the only tip I can give you, and I don't even know if that's the problem though. Like I said, this isn't really an Apple issue.

Also, there's no such thing as an "iTouch". I don't know where that term originates from, but my mom says it to me and it reminds me of when the X-Box first came out and she'd tell me to "get off the nintendo and come for supper, already!!"

You can sync all you want, the problems comes when you install firmware updates. When Apple releases a new update they will ask if you want to update, click no. (Unless you also plan on jailbreaking again at the time)

 

Hit Command+Space (Spotlight Search shortcut) and then type in "System Profiler" and hit enter.

System Profiler will launch, select the "Power" tab on the left hand side and then tell me the "Health Information."

If the cycle count is under 500 which it should be, your health should be good and you've got a bad battery and you're going to have to buy a new one. There's multiple reports of this happening on a specific model, and by the sound of it, you have all the symptoms.

Installation of the battery is extremely easy even on the non-removable battery (Late 2009 and newer) models. But just in case you don't:

If the cycle count is high, up near 1000, your health is bad and your battery is just worn out. You can re-calibrate your battery so that the reading will be more accurate. It will still last just as long as it does now, but it will be displayed correctly.

Re-calibrating a Battery in a portable: (Good to do every couple months, anyway)

Charge it fully, until the MagSafe adapter light turns green. Leave it plugged in and green for a few hours, 2-3, and then use your computer until it completely dies. Leave it dead for a day, plug it in and charge it fully the next day.

You're right and your wrong. This is a link to Apple's battery maintenance page.

If you don't wanna read everything there it basically just states that "Apple does not recommend leaving your notebook plugged in all the time."

They say that you must keep your batteries juices flowing. Think of it as exercising.

 

I can't really answer that question, but I can tell you that the reason it runs slow is because you don't have upgraded hardware. iOS 5.0 will likely drop support for any iOS device not running the new A4 chip that they're using in the Apple TV, iPad, iPhone 4 and the new iPod Touch.

4.0 brought tons of new features that really use a lot of processor power in the background, such as multitasking. Multitasking is a lot to ask from the older devices, as the 1st Gen iPod touch was dropped with 4.0 for lack of RAM and processor speed.

The 2nd gen, which I'm guessing is the device in question, only has a 530ish Mhz processor and 128 Mb of RAM, as compared to the iPhone 4 running the A4 chip (What iOS 4.0 was designed for) has a 1 GHz clockspeed and 256 Mb of RAM. That's double.

You can't expect new operating systems to run on old hardware. Hey Windows jerks, let's install Vista on a 486 and see how she dances!

No, my friend. iTunes doesn't do anything but manage the space on the device. The only thing "Unlocking" does, is allows you to use a SIM card from any service provider. iTunes allows any service provider and so does the iPhone. The only people that would re-lock your phone in any case would be one of the specific service providers who would like your phone to be loyal to the company.

My brother had this problem on his laptop. We reinstalled iTunes. Which build of iTunes are you running? I don't think there's a way of checking without launching it, so if you don't know, don't worry.

Just delete it. Here's the download link. 10.0.1 came out just a couple weeks ago, and I've heard it's rock solid, and they addressed all the compatibility issues with 10.0.0.

I think you're mistaking jailbroken for unlocked. They are two separate terms. Read up for a definition of unlocked.

And usually within a few days of a new iOS update, a jailbreak is ready. So there's really no worry here for at least a few more months before jailbreaking is literally impossible.

I wish it didn't, but my personal forecast shows the iPhone 5 to be jailbreak proof.

FWIW Apple is coming out innovative product. it may not be incredible technology, but it works the best, fastest, and easiest, and its definitely setting the bar.
