yeah, just checked. mine are old enough to be made in the USA. shame that so many American companies are outsourcing their manufacturing overseas, though it's understandable given the costs associated with manufacturing here.

Sweet! Thanks for the info! I have a plethora of ratchet straps... somewhere. I’ll take having the trans crush me over the whole truck. Hmm.. I put it in my cart to take a look at it and got another $20 off. Might have to screenshot that shit and head in there.

it works well. i put a impact on it the last time i installed the transmission cuz i was tired of using the ratchet. was pretty stable. just make sure you get the transmission centered well on it.

School my clueless ass: for trails in WA & OR, aluminum or steel skidplates? I see we have a fair amount of rocks on our trails, but it's not Moab. I'm not looking to rock crawl or anything, just concerned about weight.

Man that outter axle clamp was a PIA. Have some wheel bearings and pulled the CV faster than adjusting that. Looks better for now. Hopefully it stays that way. Anyone still doing walker?

    Buy once, cry once.

Plan like you are going to Moab or DV or Rubicon, even if you aren't this year (this is where you search for Rock Therapy in TW - happens in Oct each year).

    Also two thoughts:
    1. if you had aluminum "anything", would you buy another steel set if you had the opportunity to go to Moab? Funny Rocks?
    2. not many can weld aluminum so there is that.

We all say the same thing - not looking to rock crawl - but then that rock is there and the skinny pedal speakith... along with a sprinkle of ego...and a side bet... and tasty suds.

I've replaced my CVs about 3 times now. I've gotten to the point where I just order the boots and rebuild them myself.

I always order from CVJ. They will send you new refurbed ones, and refund you the core charge when you send the old ones back. Great customer service, they helped me over the phone with some question i had about replacing the boots myself.

I just did full steel and would do again...if you are really concerned about weight do steel front and aluminum transmission and transfer case skids. The difference in weight between full steel and full aluminum is 40-50 lbs which in the grand scheme of things is negligible.

Input noted, thank you. 50 lbs at the bottom of the COG is negligible, true. Just getting a bit paranoid about all the weight I'm adding, since this is still my daily driver.
Would you bother with a steel fuel tank skid, or is this a decent place to get away with aluminum to cut a bit of weight?

I don't know that I will ever do a tank skid but if I did I might be tempted to go aluminum. Not sure what the weight difference is there.

15lb difference between 10 gauge steel and 3/16ths alu for RCI tank skids. $50 extra for alu.

I figure it would suck to slide off something fine with the front skids and then hit your fuel tank, but again, clueless here. Also not sure how much benefit a steel fuel skid would give, since you're not mounting it to anything structural, just the tank itself.

Another thing to consider is steel slides and aluminum catches (it is sticky for being metal)

Personally I would go steel. The guy ingot my front skid from cracked his aluminum skid from a pretty reasonable tap. The skid did its job, and destroyed itself in the process. You're gonna see a decrease from tires much more than any weight from skids

My buddy with an 03 4runner went thru 3 oreillys axles before he even got one to seal to the front diff out of the box... and he used toyota seals everytime. Luckily Oreillys kept giving him new axles...still a huge pita if you ask me.
