    Morning all!

I have been known to preach about how I think sirens aren't good at giving warnings. Well I stand corrected. Yesterday I had some Mahi on the grill, trying to hurry it up because I knew there was a thunderstorm on the way. No biggie, typical afternoon storm in Alabama. We finished grilling and eating and at that point a steady rain had started to fall. Little bit of thunder etc etc. One of our pups, Murphy, really wanted outside all of a sudden so we let him out and he started running around barking at the sky. He's never done this so we found it odd then I heard it. I heard the siren. Faintly but heard it nevertheless. So I hurriedly went back inside to check my phone and sure enough a very pronounced hook echo within 3 miles of us. I was shocked. The SPC said we were out of the threat of severe weather headed into the evening. About that time the sky turned black, the wind died down and the bottom fell out. After looking at the radar I could determine that this radar indicated tornado would pass to our south so we would be just fine but it was enough for me to see how the siren, although very outdated, can still help in situations of severe weather. I've seen a couple of images of the shelf cloud and wall cloud associated with this storm and it looked nasty but I don't think it ever organized to the point of a tornado on the ground. I think it was just rotation associated with the cell itself.

Anyway, long winded but you guys stay safe today. There is a higher threat for severe weather in Northwest Alabama today.

    From AlabamaWX

SUN AND STORMS: A batch of showers and thunderstorms is passing through Central Alabama early this morning, those will end soon. The midday hours look fairly quiet today with intervals of sunshine and temperatures rising into the 80s. Then, more scattered thunderstorms form by mid to late afternoon and early tonight. Those storms could be strong; possibly severe in spots. SPC has defined a “slight risk” (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms for areas north and west of Birmingham, with a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) for the rest of the state.

Heavier storms will be capable of producing strong winds and hail; tornadoes are not expected. Storms will fade late tonight, although a few showers could linger after midnight with an upper low still spinning away west of the state.

The upper low will finally weaken and begin to lift away from the region 24-48 hours from now, but scattered showers and storms will remain possible tomorrow. Otherwise, we will forecast a mix of sun and clouds with a high in the low to mid-80s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Unusually dry for the end of May rolls into Alabama for the weekend. We project sunny days, fair cooler nights, and lower humidity levels Saturday and Sunday. Highs will be in the low 80s, and many communities will dip into the cool 50s early Sunday morning.

NEXT WEEK: The weather will stay dry for most of the week, Monday morning will be pleasantly cool with a low in the 50s, then we expect slowly rising heat and humidity levels for the rest of the week. Afternoon temperatures should reach the low 90s by the end of the week

Guys the GAT trip was fun AF. We ended up starting in the only place were the loop was closed in both directions lol but we found our way around and did about 75-80% of the loop. First camp spot was epic; second night was tough finding something on the west side (wildlife management area) of the loop. Primary and secondary trails weren't challenging at all though...was hoping to put the Taco through it's paces a little more but whatever it was still a v memorable trip. Got some great shots and hope to have video put together in about a week.

eastern side is definitely better from what we just learned. although on the way out we passed through the Conasauga River area which was really nice and had campsites there.
