I dont have a cap. If you pop 2x8's in there, whats the risk of them flying out of the bed? I want to secure them because it will be used for a fork mount bike rack head/adapter, but didn't want to drill into the bed liner. Is there a way to lock it down? I've seen a solo cup stay in a bed for years, but a brick just randomly flies out. Physics hates me. ....ok maybe somebody stole the brick lol.

I pretty sure I saw pictures of someone using turnbuckles attached to d-rings at the bed mounts. The d-rings are a great mod anyway.

Same, had to cut them down ad-hoc to get them to fit snuggly and level (notched an inch off).

Does anyone have an issue with the space between the 2x6 and the lip on the sides of the bed? The cut outs are only about an inch deap so the 2x6 suspends the rest of the plywood. About to pull the trigger on this set up

A 4x8 sheet of plywood or sheetrock will not span the entire width of the bed all the way to the lip on the sides of the bed. The plywood is only going to be supported by the 2x6 anyway. It's not an issue.

If you are making a sleeping platform or some other kind of platform above the wheel wells, just notch the ends of the 2x6 so that they sit level with the lip on the sides of the bed.

I don't suppose you know off hand how much of the 2x6 needs to be notched to sit flush with the lip?

Just so you all know @OZ-T has the skills, measurements and angles for the “perfect” fit.
I saw the perfect fit he posted in some other thread a long time ago and it is indeed exact.

Simple, elegant idea and solution to address this need! I want to do this to my truck. So as not to assume, can you advise what you used for the bolt and washers? I'm assuming you drilled a hole and reached up and inserted it from the outside under there with a flat washer, then finished the set-up with the two nuts. My local ACE has a nice assortment of stainless hardware I like to use. I usually stick to a strict-policy of "no-drilling-new-holes" >anywhere< on my vehicles unless absolutely necessary, but I will for this mod. Thank you!

Oof, I did that back in 2016 or so. I vaguely recall removing the tail light to get at the back side of the drilled hole. It does work nicely when I need some plywood or similar.

Not a problem guy! "removed the taillight": That's all I need to know! Thanks! I'll figure out the rest. They let me try the hardware out (fit for that cable end-piece) before making me pay so I'll figure it out. Right now I'm using chains and the carabiner solution. It works but it rattles some and gets in its own way sometimes when closing the gate. Again: much thanks for posting that with the pics.
