@backcountryj or anyone else with a cap and short bed, how do your bikes fit? I’m probably about to pick a cap up this weekend. I’d use my Thule hitch rack for most rides but I’d like to be able to put a bike or 2 in the bed to keep it a little more out of site for longer trips

If you take the front wheel off, you'd prob be able to. My shortbed is way too short to hold a bike with both wheels on.

I don't think the long beds can even do it comfortably and consistently. :/

Yeah I know there is no way I’ll be able to fit it with the front wheel on. My plan is to build a drawer for my tools and other random stuff so I can clear up the cab

It’s doable with a fork mount positioned low enough to clear the bars of the roof and you’ll have to angle the rear of the bike for anything modern geo. Fitting two bikes under the cap gets tricky.

I can't speak to the short bed part (though I could go measure how much extra length I have in the long bed). Height wise, this setup worked fine for me with a cab-height snugtop shell. The bikes slid in/out just fine.

If I have two it would likely be an MTB and gravel bike, hopefully that’s a little easier. I’m thinking one drawer to the side and bike on the other, do you think that would fit?

Think about how wide your handlebars are as well. I suspect thats part of why he has it in the middle, along with being his interior walkway

Solid! Looks like plenty of room to the sides even if I had to angle it

Yeah I might go do some fitting, drawers aren’t required, it’s more out of boredom haha. Covered storage out of the cab is my main goal haba

I think so. As long as the drawer is on one side leaving full bed to roof clearance for the bike. Honestly I’d be skeptical if you could run two bikes with a drawer system.

Perhaps with the right ingenuity and a pull out slide setup you could do it though.

Edit: @SenatorBlutarsky just posted what I was referring to slide out wise. Short beds may still have an issue though. Man I miss my trail limo.

The problem you could run in to angling it is having wide bars fit. I had to have both fork mounts positioned pretty close to the middle or our bars would hit the outside of the shell window where it angles down.

I’ll do it live and just measure and play around with it when I get the cap haha
Gotcha, I think it will be doable, I’ll probably just have to think about a design that I like.
Nice! I figure it will be a productive use of my time haha

Yea, I have a long bed, and even with a Medium Frame 27.5, I have to tilt the wheel for it to fit laying down.

Definitely not gonna be able to put a large 29er there. Lol.

That said, over the weekend, I had a Yakima hangover 6 bike all fully loaded. And a small 27.5 on my tailgate pad all sitting perfectly. 7 bikes just looks ridiculous but fun.

Yea the tailgate pad would be ideal for carrying several bikes, but since I'm usually only carrying one MTB (or two road bikes, but I have fork mounts on the front bed rail for those) I just lay it down flat, and go.

Nice. Good way to do it. Actually, I think evoc sells single or dual pads for use with one or two bikes. So you don't have an entire 5 or 6 bike pad. That said though, might as well get the entire pad. Haha.

I'm still just waiting to get a one up rack. :/

I'll check out the EVOC options, but the bomber pad is crazy expensive for just one bike, like at that point, I'd just get the full width pad...
