    You'll need:
    1. A vF Tuner license (and the software, available on vFTune home page) https://www.ovtuned.com/collections/vf/products/vf-tuner-software
    2. The 3.5L Tacoma Tune Pack
    https://www.ovtuned.com/collections/vf/products/tacoma-3-5l-vf-tune-pack
    3. A Tactrix Openport 2.0 OBD
    https://www.tactrix.com/index.php?o...=17&vmcchk=1&Itemid=53&redirected=1&Itemid=53
Altogether it's around $750. 2.0 is not finished yet, so it's a waiting game at this point, but if you buy VF Tuner license and get your registry file you will have the ability to flash to 1.05 or 2.0 beta using the OVTune flash manager.

Not a problem, I'm new to this within the last month and it took me a while to understand everything. I will say it's worth the money. For what we pay for tacos they should at least be comfortable to drive with a good amount of power and response. These guys are very generous for caring enough about these trucks to help us out.

I emailed this to Mat, but I should have asked here first with all he has going on. When y'all replied to the email for your registry file, did y'all put the System ID and Truck info in the subject line? I just put it in the email, and when I was reading over the instructions, I started wondering if I was supposed to have done it different.

There should be no worries there. Everything is linked through your order number which is associated with your email address and ticket number.

I have tried to upgrade to the latest VFtuner that Mat advised but even after turning off Defender I get the message below. Anyone else get this and how did you get past it. It erased my previous download and can not get it back.

Do you have any other antivirus software? To me, that doesn't look like a warning from Defender.

Right on. I remembered it from the 1.05 thread because I'm sure I will have to deal with it next time I open it.

I see a lot of mention of running higher octane. Is the tune required to do this or will stock still see improvement using higher octane?

    Not required.

You will get more performance from higher octane though. Even on 87 driveability and throttle response is immensely improved.

The Taco runs perfectly fine on regular fuel. A lot better than it did stock on hot days. Until 2.0 released for the MTs, running high octane was of no benefit that I saw. Now, comparing 2.0 SFOB Prem on 87 versus 92, I'm up 2mpg on 92. That covers the cost difference, so I will stick with that.

The 2.0 tunes are all octane learning, so you can put in whatever. You might get a few miles of funny running, but I did not experience that using the Premium tune and starting with 87 or switching to 92.

So for the guys that know a lot about this stuff, I have a buddy that wants to tune his truck as well. From what I understand, my licence is tied to my specific ECU, correct? But is my Tactrix Openport also tied to this as well? I'd like to know if my friend could buy a license and the tune pack and just use my Tactrix to flash.

The software is licensed to your computer. The cable is not tied to anything. Post #1 should answer your questions. I've taken out of some of the info to try and provide you with the info related to your question from post 1 below.

There's no Tactrix license. He can use your Tactrix

BUT, if you have vF Tuner, since this is the vF thread, you could flash his truck yourself if you two have the same ECU version. Or have him pay you the monies to unlock his ECU version and the tune pack and then flash his truck

So by doing this I could get him on 1.05 through flash manager as well? I should also mention that he has an '18 and I have a '16 so the ECUs would indeed be different.

Yeah you'd have different ECUs. So for example, you're like hey bud I'll read your ECU for free, I'll even update you in Techstream if you want/need, then the ECU unlock is 75$, tune pack is $390, so how about we call it $500 or you find others with the same ECU version (or that can be updated to the same one) to split the costs, and then I flash you and them and in exchange for paying a little more than what was strictly required to unlock the ECU and tunes, I can also flash your truck for free in the future?

That's what I'm planning on doing locally anyway
