Nothing has changed in the rear. Just the wheels.

Great post, sometimes I forget that not everyone is trying to min-max.

I had the dealer install my Sumos... had him do an alignment afterwards - he said the thrust angle needed to be corrected with the addition of the Sumos.

Thrust angle sounds like a porn term, but the truck drives perfectly so maybe had was right...

I'm looking at the wheelers now for the front. When I was thinking about them they were $60-70, now they are $100. I feel like I could benefit from them the most when bottoming out. Not sure I really need anything in the rear just yet. I have Dakar medium springs (bought the HD's and removed the recommended spring to make them medium duty) and I don't have any sag when towing or everyday driving, yet.

    *yet

But, youll have the "helper" spring to throw in there when the time comes... I can tell you that bumpstops are top three modifications/changes ive done to my truck... next to tires and lift.

Correct 16+ are the 612- prefix. 15 and previous are 610. The new ones are 4 rings the old version was 5. New version is 1” shorter and narrower. I just installed sumo springs 612-40 (500lbs @50% compression) and am very happy. Mine do make contact with the frame and actually put it back to stock height with my ARE topper and an extra 50lbs or so of gear I keep in a lockable bin secured to the front of the bed with turnbuckles (Long bed). I’m guess about 275-300lbs of weight. I can notice it being slightly firmer and much improved over the stock. I’ll eventually probably do a 2.5 coil-over lift and some better leaf springs, but that will be several years out when the factory suspension needs replacing. Really happy with them.

Do you remember if your ubolt sits completely flat on the sumo bracket? Or does the ubolt touch the edges of the sumo bracket not sitting flat in the center?

Thanks for this. The ubolts sent with the aal are ome and I think it’s slightly narrower inner diameter than stock bolts but also the factor bump plate is notched where the ubolts rest (basically raising it up slightly and clearing the bend radius… is my guess). I read the description as it mentions other brand ubolts don’t have a proper radius to match stock but they don’t list complete measurements, only leg length so I’ll email them. This maybe my solution- I appreciate you!

It absolutely MUST sit flat - otherwise your axle will be loose and flop around.

You did the right thing by emailing them... Don't try to bend the ubolts, make sure the vendor sends you ones that work.

So I’m thinking about getting a set of theses. When we go camping, my truck is completely loaded down, and theres 4 of us, so most of the stuff is in the back. My factory springs are just about completely flat(unloaded), so I hit the bump stops a lot(loaded). My question is, should I go 500# or 1000#? I probly have 500# or so loaded, but I wanna be somewhere in the middle of rattling my back teeth out and sagging at all. I’m even thinking about going with the 1000# and just replacing them with the stock bump stops in the off season.

I've been having the 1000# sumos since new. 2 years later I still like them.

I have a camper shell, bed mat, and about 50# of junk in there at all times. So maybe 300#?

Honestly ride quality is not bad. If I had an empty bed most of the time maybe I would have probably chosen the 500# springs. But I tow a teardrop trailer and with gear I'm probably at about 800#.

10-4. I forgot, I don’t tow at all with this truck, I have a Cummins for all my towing.

During the dry fit it didn’t seem right. I installed the 3leaf aal today and compared the stock to the ome on the stock bump stop- factory ubolts sit completely flat but the ome did not (again this is with the factory bump). When I checked the factory ubolt on the sumo spring- it didn’t sit flat either. It wasn’t as bad obviously but still had a gap (maybe 1/8”).
I’ll be emailing both companies with my findings and see what happens. I really want to get these sumos on

I thought I took a pic of the factory ubolts on the sumos but must not of

So I have a lift sitting at the house, still not sure when I’ll install. Would it give a factory truck too much lift in the rear to only add a HeadStrong 3 leaf progressive? If I left the overload spring out??

I have a cap and it sagged over the last 2 yrs from the factory rake (the sag probably made it more level but that’s not my thing). I just Did the 3leaf no overload and it raised it up a bit. I’m going to give it some time to settle before I take my after measurements. I didn’t take before the cap measurements so I’m not sure what factory rake was or how much it actually sagged

disregard this, I just scrolled up. I think you’d be fine with just the aal for now
you have any weight that made you sag? If not then I think it’d be definitely noticeable without adding to the front

Timbren VS Sumo Springs: I've had Timbrens on 2 older Tacos and Sumos on a 2017 Taco TRDOR. The Timbrens rode stiffer unloaded. The Sumo Springs are fairly soft unloaded. They've been on for 47K and look fine. That has been a lot of towing and hauling. Hitch load goes way back and has leverage -VS a load over or in front of axle. I'd go with the Sumo Springs again. They went on easily, good to have a torque wrench. E-trailer has an install video. Taco springs are too light. I probably would have broken a spring without Timbrens on the older Tacos.
