Frame Replacement - What additional cost to expect from the Dealer?

I have an aftermarket 3/16 skid that I removed prior, and the front driveshaft had a bad ujoint I wasn't going to pay them to do it. They didn't reinstall it for liability reasons.

Piggybacking of this thread as I dropped mine for a frame replacement this week. While there for inspection they identified that my steering rack is leaking from the seals and needs replacement along with sway bar links seeping grease. I am going to call Monday and see if my service manager can consider these ancillary parts as the total cost for replacement of both will be close to $1k.

He also provided a list of items he has seen replaced at no labor cost and included shocks, carrier bearings, and ball joints. Any advice for these or other parts I should have replaced?

 

Other than some butchered wiring for the aftermarket backup cam (somewhat easily fixed at home), no problems arose.

 

Good luck. Wear and tear isn't considered ancillary unless it's rusting away.

 

Ok so, Im just jumping on this thread new. Kinda out of line, cause my frame replacement was actually on a 1st gen under 15 year extended warranty. But I came across this thread searching for frame replacement info.

Toyota dealership outsourced my frame replacement warranty/spare tire carrier recall to an outside shop and took 2 years to do the work. Shop decided to cut off parts to cut time, and ordered and installed factory parts that werent covered (i.e. entire oem exhaust system) without my request, authorization or even notifying me until the job was said and done. They still have my truck and say I owe them ~$3,700 on shit I never signed for.

@Riodelarosa oh that suuuuucks. Whytf did Toyota sub it out? They made the decision to do that. They should be responsible to who they subbed it out to.

Back to the topic at hand:
My frame replacement cost me nothing. Although I did ask them to call me because there were some things I wanted done during the process. They did not bother and showed me a list of about $5,000 worth of things they suggested including the timing chain.
I laughed and said you're kidding? Needless to say, I declined.

 

It’s less than 1k to hot dip galvanize a taco frame. The dealerships should offer this option.

 

Got a spare set of keys? Go get your truck back. Don't even tell them your coming.

 

I know this is an old thread but I am about to get my frame replaced. Was wondering Do they take off the upper control arms as part of this process and if so should I bring then new OEM ones to put on?

I also went with Bilstein 5100s and OEM Springs. All reassembled for free labor during my Frame recall.

If i was doing it over, I would have also have handed them a rear Add-a-leaf (I came back and paid for that to be installed a few weeks later because I was lower in the back than front) - and that is NOT a look I condone.

I also would have handed them: Body mount bushings, Motor and Transmission Mounts. We inspected all of mine at the time, and felt they were all "Okay" but 2 years after the frame recall I hear squeaks that i'm sure are those body mounts..... sure isn't the suspension....

I would also hand them a new Steering Rack: mine is just starting to leak, and its not a fun looking job to DIY job- although having just last week pulled and replaced my CVs and the inner front Diff needle bearing with the East Coast Gear Supply Mod (Bushing replacement) - I can do the steering rack job, but it doesn't look fun at all..... so in hind sight, it would have been well worth the $ then to get a new rack and have them install it.

Think of it this way: Your about Rig is about to become a forever truck... take advantage of their free labor as much as you can while you have the opportunity of a life time!!!!!

 

Totally appreciate that info.. I will look in to what you have suggested. I replaced the coil overs about a month ago and put shocks in the back. I am also getting the leafs replaced due to the E02 recall. I was thinking about having the rear main done for the savings. I ll see what they have to say.
I figured the UCA is easier for me to do then the rear main seal.

I also was given new rear leaf pkg, and therefore only did the AAL... (for now).
Honestly i'm probably not going to lift my truck any more than the (?) 1.5-2" that happened with this suspension until I hit the lottery.
What I don't plan to do is my clutch.... and rear main seal at that time... that is a big job to pull the transmission IMHO with out a shop and those type tools which I do not have.

Where did you look up the parts you needed? I honestly can tell exactly what I should get. Its not something I am real familiar with and its a little confusing.

not the upper control arms.... lower ones are replaced..bring new shocks if you want.they will be installed for free.

Looks like them - mind you I personally have not researched ANY brands yet... so i have NO idea if that is a good quality product or not.
