Sorry I must've missed that you have a 2nd gen. I've only seen your first gen.

It'll be awesome if I can keep the OEM steering rack from breaking every 10 miles of rocks.

Nothing comes to mind other than the first trail I hit last Sunday. Had 2 3ft ledges with sharp rocks that we bombed up. Ended up hitting something hard enough my ram shifted 2 inches so I could barely steer to get back to the trailer to fix it haha.

I will say other than the ram moving the full hydro was amazing. Ran 7psi locked in the front and could steer with no issues. Even forgot to turn the locker off after a couple climbs because it steers so easy.

Obviously pavement is not the first consideration when putting 40s on, but if I drove from Canada down to Utah to do a wheeling trip, how much would I regret 40s over 37s? Because I do a lot of pretty long road trips, but also a lot of wheeling. Have 4.88s

Can't make an statement based on experience yet since I only have a couple hundred miles on it with the 40s. Don't even have the gears broken in on it. Got a couple more things to wrap up before I hit any trails with it.

Only thing I feel I have any insight to offer about 40s is how much work it is for someone working a 40 hour a week job. I've been working on multiple projects on the truck, some of the simultaneously, for about 4-5 months so far. I completely removed the wheel wells, tubbed all the way back to the door hinges, relocated all of the components in the engine bay higher and inboard closer to the engine. I still have a bunch of smaller jobs & minor problems to solve before I would call the whole fitting job "done"

Odd ball things I ended up doing or had already been done:
Had to modify the brackets for the engine ECU to mount it further away from the firewall, literally couldn't install it the original location due to the amount I tubbed

Battery was already relocated but I probably would have had to do it for 40s, the driverside fuse box and the offroad brake booster assembly take up a lot of space

Parking brake foot lever removed due to the tubbing, this wasn't an issue for me since I had already disabled mine.

Wiring harness plug mounts at the corners of the foot well won't fit right and need modification. Passenger side doesn't have much wiring in that corner so it's not an issues but the driverside on a trd offroad has a retarded amount of wiring in that corner, I still need to make a guard or cover to protect the wad of wiring down there from my left foot.

Relocated the driverside engine bay wiring harness firewall penetration/boot higher to match the fuse box's location

Body mounts had to be relocated

Thanks for sharing! I've already relocated my batteries to the cab, and relocated my body mounts, and I have JD fab's LCA relocate, but I haven't installed it yet. I'm hoping that means a bit less tubbing on the firewall end.

Because of my business I have almost no time to work on my own truck during the spring/summer/fall, but come winter things slow down enough that I can usually get my own truck on the hoist for a good week straight if I time it right. I've just been debating between 37s or 40s. 37s are a lot less work, and probably easier on the truck, and better on the highway for long road trips to wheeling spots. Just thought I'd ask your thoughts on them so far, because it's super badass what you've done. I'm Also a big fan of your tail lights!

    Are you running 5.29?

How is the combination of 5.38 & 40s with an automatic on the road?

37s on 4.56 at 6500+ lbs sluggish as fuck and couldn't use over drive

40s on 5.38 at 5000lbs don't have to smash the gas pedal to get pushed into the seat. Haven't driven it much on the interstate so I can't say anything there yet.

It'll probably be around 5500lbs after I put everything I need back on, don't expect it to feel much different though
