Bought my 2015 4x4 dbl cab SR5 TSS v6 about 3 months ago w/ just under 70k miles and I’m ready to change the oil in it for the first time myself. Just wondering what is the best mileage/time change (3k, 4K, 6K?) for regular driving use? It’s my daily driver and not much off roading as of yet. Also needing recommendation on what oil, synthetic or conventional, and filter brand if any.
Thanks in advance and I’m loving this site so far

Check the manual/service schedule if one was included...it's all in there.

K&N filter, Mobil one synthetic 5w-30, used to change every 10K miles, now I have 160K miles and noticed the oil was darker on my last change so now I’m doing every 7K

When I was using dino oil, as it came with new, I changed it every +/- 4,000 miles (at the dealer).
Now, no longer under warranty, I switched to full synthetic Castrol High Mileage 5-30 and change it at +/- 8,000 miles... or once a year, whatever comes first (I am not driving as much as I used to). My 2010 V-6 has 125,000 miles on it and not one engine issue. Yes, the oil is good for 15,000 miles... but my Tacoma is worth the love of fresh, clean oil more often! It is cheap insurance for long engine life, too! The blood of your car!

Thanks for the info. I’ve gotten the little bit of info from the manual already (and more from the site since posting) but was looking for insider tips or suggestions. Guess it’s pretty debatable.

Overkill for me. I use synthetic oil and Toyota filters, changing every 5K miles.

I use regular 10w30 oil and a Toyota oil filter with 5,000 mile intervals.

But I never see temperatures below 65 degrees.

It's a personal preference. Use whatever makes you feel comfortable. It's your truck and your money. I think it's hard to find crappy oil nowadays.

The owner's manual for the '15 recommends 5w-30 conventional oil with a service interval of 5K miles.

What brand you use and whether it's conventional, synthetic or a blend is utterly unimportant. Pic a type and flavor you like or is on sale and run with.

Do not look back and enjoy your rig and life.

    Lock it up boys. :locked:

OK you can start picking up stones to throw. Right now of all the Toyota PU I have owned their combined millage is around 900,000 miles two with excess of 300K. I have always used what Toyota suggested for oil weight that's it. Whatever happens to be on sale in brand name oils I don't care it all comes from the same source and gasp, Fram filters! Here is my point Fram is the largest selling oil filter in the world! They did not get to that point by making junk filters. Yeah I splurge and buy the TG ones because they have a nice grip surface. I do have a little experience in the mechanical field (38 years) I was shop owner (two of them) I used whatever the customer wanted it was their choice but knowing it made little or no difference in the longevity of the vehicle I use the most convenient thing for me. Not being a Walmart fan the only thing I buy from them is filters and oil it the same damn oil NAPA for instance sells for about 20-30% less. It's your ride it's your money.

Always used the manufactures recommended grade oil, and mobil 1 synthetic with k/n, or mobile oil filters in my older toyota's. Still plan to use mobile 1 but with toyota filters when the time comes in the new tacoma.

Blackstone Laboratories said they could find zero difference in wear between brands and types. They simply said follow the manufacturer's advice and go.

    That said....

I use M1 HM in my daughter's old Yaris. My plan is to eventually use it in the Taco. It gets high marks on Bobistheoilguy site for it robust additive pack and the fact that it's on the heavier side of the 5/30 spectrum.
