Early season heat wave in the Sierras, so I did what I always wanted to do and a big reason why I got a truck:
Drive up to the high ground and sleep under the stars, with the intent of having the whole mountain to myself in the morning.

I didn't get to spend the night though. Emergency text had me drive back down at 10PM. Off-roading in the dark was another first for me.

Wow! Looks epic though. Alabama Hills are is nice BLM too. Not sure where you were in this pic, but it looks like a hell of a place to be able to drive in AND camp. Good on ya. Wouldn't mind knowing where it is, but I'm the king of secret keeping so understand if you want to keep it to yourself. Keep enjoying the truck!

    Thanks for the likes, everybody!

@Malore - it's no big secret, it actually is County Open Space. Nevada still is pretty generous with where you're allowed to go. This is off a side road on the way to Hobart Reservoir, up Ash Creek Canyon Road, west out of Carson City, NV. It's 7.5 miles from where I live and my fuel consumption showed as 7.5 mpg when I got there. Hence I am going to name the spot the "1 gallon place".

I think it will keep itself uncrowded because of the inaccessibility. The thing is that this road (not really a road, it can't decide if it wants to be a road or a trail in some places) climbs about 3000' in 3.5 miles with very deep water bars. Because of the combination of sand, steepness and those water bars there is no way anything without 4 low and enough clearance / suspension toughness could make the climb. But it's still way too tame for serious wheeling.

I've tried it in my trusty old manual Subaru (may it rest in peace), the clutch screamed bloody murder and I still banged the crap out of the front and back - without even getting to the steep parts.

The Taco can make it easily in 2nd low, but it did bottom out the OEM shocks and the stock Wranglers needed ATRAC assistance. The Eibachs and Wildpeaks are fine though.
