@jcampbell474 eh I think it has to do w a few variables as well as the specific dealship and how many cars they are moving. As I posted I got 0% interest and I got it for a 1,000 under invoice which was basically 4500 off of sticker. Awesome deal in my favor not the dealerships for sure.

Congrats! Sounds like you did get a great deal!!

I will not even attempt to pretend that I have any idea of the number of variables at play. Just stating what they told me.

@jcampbell474 you are right though I got the same response at first. 0% then less rebates. 1.9% rebates. No Monday morning quarterbacking. Just putting it on the forum so people know 0% and a grand under invoice (requiring ideal dealership circumstances probably) is possible. “What one man can do another can do” lol

@kingjj - thanks for the insight and providing your numbers as reference. Very helpful. I went in hoping for $38k and pushing for accessories as a second option. Dealer wouldn’t Offer any accessories stating it’s virtually a separate business. Started at $41900 and went down to $40k OTD. Not moving much more on price it seems stating low inventory and that they likely won’t have much inventory for months ahead. I held out on the dealer’s ultimatum to close tonight or price goes up on Monday when the 0% ends. My credit union offered 2.25% but seems the 0% is a better few than the $1500 cash.

@Twouptwodown yea they would not likely they “add” anything to the car that isn’t on it w the sticker price.

You would just have to do the math. 40k - 1500 cash back = 38500 at 2.25% at 60months equals $40,742 total.

you wind up paying $2,242 In interest.
So if you can get for under that the 0% is better than the 2.25%.

also using the dealership Gap insurance is a smart move. It’s more Expensive than through your Own insurance co by far BUT the dealers gap ins. Typically Covers the ENTIRE amount of the Loan at 0% interest. Once you drive the truck off the lot even a tacoma is Worth 20% less than msrp. If you total it god forbid your personal insurance plan will most likely Not cover the entire amount. Make sure you and Cancel the Dealers Gap insurance at Any time. Keep it for a year and at 12months cancel it. They Should take it off your loan. Don’t pay for it all upfront

don’t put ANY money down if you can afford not too and can stomach the monthly payment at 0% interest. Your using and their money. Free money. Never put money down on a depreciating asset. If you total the truck the gap insurance will ONLY cover what is left on the Loan. If you put 5 down on the loan After you drive it off the Lot You walk out owing 35k, the truck immediately depreciates very close to that amount as soon as you take it. If you totaled it next week the insurance would say yes it’s worth about 35-36k we’ll pay off the remainder, and your out your 5k down payment.

In summary don’t put anything down. I wouldn’t. 0% interest w gap insurance. Roll your taxes and tags into the loan at 0%. Use their money. 40k for the truck, about 3500 total taxes and tags. Finance all of it at 0% and use their gap for a Year. If you crash it they will Cover the whole loan taxes tags and all. Otherwise if you pay anything out of pocket in the event of a crash you could lose out $

also if you use their money at 0% any money you Would of used for a down payment I’d use it instead to invest or pay off any debts costing you actual interest.

MSRP-sale price before tax, tags, title= discount
10-14% off MSRP is the good to very good range

@Chastaco 14% I think is Well above a Realistic Target. 10-12% is imho the Good deal range. If you got 14% your either stealing or something is wrong w the truck

Yea, that’s what I said 10-12 good. 12-14 very good. Your target can be whatever you want. What I’m saying is the actual numbers from the data on this thread. Plenty of people have gotten 14%. I wasn’t guessing. That is the range. The range actually goes up to about 16% off. 16 is an anomaly. Read all 192 pages of this thread and you will see. I have. That’s where I’m getting those numbers from. I purchased my last truck at 15.2% off.

@Chastaco Really so you got it for 3k Under factory invoice? Sure it’s possible to do but imho not common. Dealers aren’t handing out vehicles commonly that much under invoice. W dealer hold back and other variables the common purchaser isn’t aware of I’m sure it happens. But that’s a steal and rare. 12% would be a great deal. 15-16% your catching unicorns.

    True. Anomaly=steal=unicorn=rare
Again, I agree. Just letting you know what’s possible. Read the whole thread if you don’t believe me. It was actually 15.7 off. Yes, unicorn deal.

Your method of comparing the selling price to invoice price is flawed. What they tell you is invoice and what actual invoice is are two different things. The formula I posted has been the standard throughout this thread.

That was 2016. My 2020 is not quite as good. A lot of ins and outs. Probably about 12. I’d jump on it too. Depending on the tax rate in his state he might be there already.

@Chastaco i understand, typically though the invoice is about 3k-3500 off of the msrp give or take. So it’s pretty easy to get very close to the ball park of the invoice wo asking them. It’s also something that can be looked researched wo the dealership. If msrp is 44500 they can’t tell you invoice is like 42500. Clearly full of it. 41k-41500 puts you where you should be around. 10-12% to play it safe is easily at or under invoice. 12% about a grand under to play it safe. 10% dam close too it. And looking up accurate msrps based on trim is easy too. but yes to not be “flawed”if the msrp is accurate 10-12% will put you at invoice or 1000-1500 under it. Great deals.

You're absolutely right! I got exactly what I wanted for a reasonable price! :)

Thank you for the positive reinforcement to my purchase. I'm so happy!!

@oneup714 Whaaaa!? Thats crazy! I emailed every dealership within a 45mi radius of my zip and also checked every dealership's website and then called. Was a lot of work, but well worth it..Although now I'm getting like 50 emails a day, after my purchase.:crapstorm:

@oneup714 If you have a Costco membership I'd do the Costco Auto. If you don't its worth the $60 to save $2k-$3k even if you don't use Costco. Try Longo, their prices are pretty competitive.

You guys are awesome. Hoping you can steer me in the right direction; I might be taken for a ride.
Was quoted for a 2020 TRD OR 4x4 DCSB MT. Those are hard needs for me. Everything else I can budge on, but the less the better. Comes with Basic Tech package ($770), Tonneau Cover ($650), Floor/Door sill liners ($248). Currently in Utah, Salt Lake area.

    MSRP: 38,123
    Dealer discount: -750
    Factory Rebate: -1750
Sales taxe, doc fees, reg fee: ~3200
    OTD Price: ~38,758

I like the truck and I want it. It's even in my color and really the only thing I don't want is the Tonneau Cover. But by my math, that's 6.6% below MSRP. ($35,623/$38,123). I'm no guru when it comes to this stuff, but sure am trying to not get hosed. I asked about the Costco discount, which he said there isn't one at this time. My trade-in isn't worth anything (this part is true haha). Went to another dealership and almost the same story, except their dealer discount was even less.

Looking at KBB, the fair purchase price is 35,393. Once I add the tax and fees, I end up with ~38,600. That passes the sniff test, but the 6.6 below MSRP seems low. Thoughts? And thanks.
