Stock Skid Plate Bolt Size??

Long story short, jacked up one of my skid plate bolts on my TRD Sport while installing my new suspension..

Anyone know the size of the skid plate bolts off the top of there head (or otherwise) so I can get the proper bolt to replace it??

Yep. The replacements are M8-1.25x20mm. Make sure you use a large DIN 9021 washer. (Not like in the picture.)

Four of them hold the front skid plate under the oil filter, sometimes referred to as the "splash guard". The other four hold the back skid plate under the oil pan (only on the TRD Off-Road), that one is called the "under cover". During the last oil change I found that two of the eight were slightly galled, so I replaced them with stainless hardware.

FYI, the OEM bolts are part number 90080-11373 with captive washers and 12mm hex cap, but Toyota sells them for $5 a bolt which isn't very cash money. Every replacement I've seen only comes with 13mm hex caps which shouldn't be much of a problem. Also, Toyota recommends that they be tightened to 22ft-lb (30Nm) on both plates, but my replacement bolts are A2-70 steel and the recommendation is reduced when lubricated. I snugged em up to 18ft-lb (25Nm). Remember to use anti-seize generously since these are going to be the first few fasteners to rust on the truck.

I had a bolt break on me. Need to drill it out and re-tap. Any advice on how best to do this?

 

Had 3 of 4 break on me. Was a pain in the ass drilling them out but finally got it done. Started with smaller sized drill bit and gradually increased in size until the broken/rusted bolts came out.

 

Anyone have the recommended washer OD or the OEM measurement handy?

 

Yea man, stock captive washer is a 0.857in OD.
I replaced them with DIN9021 washers with an 0.927in OD. (About 24mm on an M8)

 

Thanks, I'm looking to replace the mismatched set since it came to me with a diff drop, might as well move all of them to one size hex head. Making sure at least the OE washer OD was covered is greatly appreciated!

 

German-standard metric washers? Really?

Just get 5/16" nominal washers from your hardware store and call it a day. Easier to find them in stainless too.

 

You're talking the OEM splash guards right? A nice member might send you an OEM bolt. Lots of us have these sitting around after swapping to a true skid plate.

 

You know the Germans always make good stuff.

 

I will take one. I figure on putting two together with a layer of kevlar in between. Oh you were talking about a bolt, crap, well it was just an idea. The kevlar wouldn't be of any use but the two "splash pans" might not be a bad idea. hmmm. May have to drill out the upper pan bolt hole to get them bolt up. I bet I could pick up a "splash guard" at low cost. Would two layers of "splash pans" double the strength or would it actually be more than 2X the strength? My beer is empty...

 

Anyone know the size for the allen bolts for the oil filter? Toyota pretty much stripped all four when I had my two free oil change.

The filter cover screws are M8-1.25 x 25mm, 5 mm drive flat hex socket head, 4.4mm head height, 16mm head diameter, grade 12.9, zinc plated, fully threaded, standard profile (90 degree), manufactured by YFS.
