@Chastaco 14% I think is Well above a Realistic Target. 10-12% is imho the Good deal range. If you got 14% your either stealing or something is wrong w the truck

Yea, that’s what I said 10-12 good. 12-14 very good. Your target can be whatever you want. What I’m saying is the actual numbers from the data on this thread. Plenty of people have gotten 14%. I wasn’t guessing. That is the range. The range actually goes up to about 16% off. 16 is an anomaly. Read all 192 pages of this thread and you will see. I have. That’s where I’m getting those numbers from. I purchased my last truck at 15.2% off.

@Chastaco Really so you got it for 3k Under factory invoice? Sure it’s possible to do but imho not common. Dealers aren’t handing out vehicles commonly that much under invoice. W dealer hold back and other variables the common purchaser isn’t aware of I’m sure it happens. But that’s a steal and rare. 12% would be a great deal. 15-16% your catching unicorns.

    True. Anomaly=steal=unicorn=rare
Again, I agree. Just letting you know what’s possible. Read the whole thread if you don’t believe me. It was actually 15.7 off. Yes, unicorn deal.

Your method of comparing the selling price to invoice price is flawed. What they tell you is invoice and what actual invoice is are two different things. The formula I posted has been the standard throughout this thread.

That was 2016. My 2020 is not quite as good. A lot of ins and outs. Probably about 12. I’d jump on it too. Depending on the tax rate in his state he might be there already.

@Chastaco i understand, typically though the invoice is about 3k-3500 off of the msrp give or take. So it’s pretty easy to get very close to the ball park of the invoice wo asking them. It’s also something that can be looked researched wo the dealership. If msrp is 44500 they can’t tell you invoice is like 42500. Clearly full of it. 41k-41500 puts you where you should be around. 10-12% to play it safe is easily at or under invoice. 12% about a grand under to play it safe. 10% dam close too it. And looking up accurate msrps based on trim is easy too. but yes to not be “flawed”if the msrp is accurate 10-12% will put you at invoice or 1000-1500 under it. Great deals.

You're absolutely right! I got exactly what I wanted for a reasonable price! :)

Thank you for the positive reinforcement to my purchase. I'm so happy!!

@oneup714 Whaaaa!? Thats crazy! I emailed every dealership within a 45mi radius of my zip and also checked every dealership's website and then called. Was a lot of work, but well worth it..Although now I'm getting like 50 emails a day, after my purchase.:crapstorm:

@oneup714 If you have a Costco membership I'd do the Costco Auto. If you don't its worth the $60 to save $2k-$3k even if you don't use Costco. Try Longo, their prices are pretty competitive.

You guys are awesome. Hoping you can steer me in the right direction; I might be taken for a ride.
Was quoted for a 2020 TRD OR 4x4 DCSB MT. Those are hard needs for me. Everything else I can budge on, but the less the better. Comes with Basic Tech package ($770), Tonneau Cover ($650), Floor/Door sill liners ($248). Currently in Utah, Salt Lake area.

    MSRP: 38,123
    Dealer discount: -750
    Factory Rebate: -1750
Sales taxe, doc fees, reg fee: ~3200
    OTD Price: ~38,758

I like the truck and I want it. It's even in my color and really the only thing I don't want is the Tonneau Cover. But by my math, that's 6.6% below MSRP. ($35,623/$38,123). I'm no guru when it comes to this stuff, but sure am trying to not get hosed. I asked about the Costco discount, which he said there isn't one at this time. My trade-in isn't worth anything (this part is true haha). Went to another dealership and almost the same story, except their dealer discount was even less.

Looking at KBB, the fair purchase price is 35,393. Once I add the tax and fees, I end up with ~38,600. That passes the sniff test, but the 6.6 below MSRP seems low. Thoughts? And thanks.

Costco seems like a pretty good route to go if you’re not looking to spend a lot of time hanging in going back-and-forth. At the place I checked out, The Costco price gets you $500 below invoice which is right around 8.8% Off MSRP. Then add in the 1750 rebate and that made it 13.1% off. But this was including a mysterious “$1100 Southeast Toyota Administration Fee” that was tacked on on that I’ve never seen before. I didn’t really try to negotiate with them or anything because they flat out told me that they couldn’t beat the deal that I already had in place.

    None....yet.
It seems like they're taking an awful lot lof liberties in deciding what MSRPeven is lately. At least here. Saw an SR5 with a lift, wheels and tires at the dealer with an "MSRP" of $50k. Thats Market Suggested Retail Price.
"We can come down 5k of msrp, because we made up the msrp."

You have to log into the Costco website go to the auto program and they will put you to a dealer that participates in the Costco program. Most dealers do not participate in the Costco program. Either way, you can definitely do better than 6%. Read back through at least like 10 pages of this thread and you’ll see. 10-14% off is the range you want to shoot for. If you have anything in writing then call up other dealerships in a 100 mile range or however far you are willing to go and tell them what number you want to be at.

The Costco dealer I went to had one that was about 10 days out from getting there. I assume it was one that was allocated to their store.

When I got rid of my previous 3rd gen I told myself if toyota put in a power seat and allowed for tech without sunroof, I’d buy another one. Took a 2020 trdor dcsb with tech and LED for a demo and decided it was time!

So, I’m back in a Tacoma.

    msrp: $42003
    Price paid: $38400

this works out to be around $1k below invoice. Couple that with the 0% and it’s a pretty good deal for a Tacoma!

I traded a Rav4 Adventure, which they gave me retail value for, the next 3 dealers wouldn’t even come close. Since I owned that vehicle the Tacoma is essentially paid for!
