Costco seems like a pretty good route to go if you’re not looking to spend a lot of time hanging in going back-and-forth. At the place I checked out, The Costco price gets you $500 below invoice which is right around 8.8% Off MSRP. Then add in the 1750 rebate and that made it 13.1% off. But this was including a mysterious “$1100 Southeast Toyota Administration Fee” that was tacked on on that I’ve never seen before. I didn’t really try to negotiate with them or anything because they flat out told me that they couldn’t beat the deal that I already had in place.

    None....yet.
It seems like they're taking an awful lot lof liberties in deciding what MSRPeven is lately. At least here. Saw an SR5 with a lift, wheels and tires at the dealer with an "MSRP" of $50k. Thats Market Suggested Retail Price.
"We can come down 5k of msrp, because we made up the msrp."

You have to log into the Costco website go to the auto program and they will put you to a dealer that participates in the Costco program. Most dealers do not participate in the Costco program. Either way, you can definitely do better than 6%. Read back through at least like 10 pages of this thread and you’ll see. 10-14% off is the range you want to shoot for. If you have anything in writing then call up other dealerships in a 100 mile range or however far you are willing to go and tell them what number you want to be at.

The Costco dealer I went to had one that was about 10 days out from getting there. I assume it was one that was allocated to their store.

When I got rid of my previous 3rd gen I told myself if toyota put in a power seat and allowed for tech without sunroof, I’d buy another one. Took a 2020 trdor dcsb with tech and LED for a demo and decided it was time!

So, I’m back in a Tacoma.

    msrp: $42003
    Price paid: $38400

this works out to be around $1k below invoice. Couple that with the 0% and it’s a pretty good deal for a Tacoma!

I traded a Rav4 Adventure, which they gave me retail value for, the next 3 dealers wouldn’t even come close. Since I owned that vehicle the Tacoma is essentially paid for!

@MilkDud do not include your taxes and tags when figuring how much % discount your getting off the truck. Taxes and tags have nothing to do w it imho. Msrp minus your rebates and discount off the truck is what I’d be concerned w negotiate that down and at the end the taxes and tags are what they are. The dealer isn’t making money off of the taxes your stuck paying the gov on your truck

Like he said. Is 38,400 out the door or will you be adding taxes etc. on after that? Retail on the trade is really good especially in this terrible used car market. I would factor that in as part of the deal. The place I’m trading into right now is giving me $27,000 for my trade which has a Kelley blue book private party very good value of $25,500. Most places were at like 22,000.

The $38,400 was our agreed on price, which was a little over $1k below dealer sheet cost. Taxes on the difference and my licensing fees were added. Very good trade value for my Rav was in the 27k range.

I’ll also note that I approached two other dealers with these numbers (I wanted cement), both said the deal is likely not real and to take it because they wouldn’t even entertain these numbers with Tacoma stock being so low.

I’m sure in a different market I could have held out for a few more dollars, but of course 0% wouldn’t have existed then either.....

Haha. “Not even real” I love when they pull that one. So 38.4 is before taxes etc added right? I assume that $849 is the dealer/doc fee right? That’s pretty high. Normal is around 500.
You said they gave you retail on your RAV4 right? What is the actual trade in value on your RAV4 and then what did they give you?

No, that $849 is the Toyota hold back (which is the standard 2% of msrp), my doc fee was 100.00. I negotiated from the invoice price, those 3 line items below were not in the deal. For the Rav, excellent trade value is 27,500, so their $30k was more than fair and is base retail.

I think that's what I did to get my % off, unless I'm not getting it.

    38,123 MSRP - 2500 in discount and rebate = 35,623
    35,623/38,123 = .934 = 6.6% off

Seems a little low given what I'm seeing here
    Thanks

Oh yeah, if you’re getting 30,000 for your trade that means your financing under 10,000. Definitely take $1750 instead of the 0% finance

Yeah, you’re definitely low. Isn’t there like five or six Toyota dealers in the Salt Lake area? One of them will do better than that. If not, drive to Colorado or something. 6.6 including the rebate is REALLY low.

I edited my number, 35,623/38,123 = .934, not .944. But the percentage is correct.
In any case, that's what I was thinking. Might have to ask around more.

Break even point for a 0% loan versus a 3% interest rate loan with the $1750 rebate is when your financing $22,500. Personally I’d rather have the cash equity in the vehicle at that point rather than the savings coming to me incrementally over a five-year period.

But in all honesty though you might be doing just fine with that price right there because of the amount they’re giving you on your trade-in. I’m only getting 8% off MSRP on the actual new truck I’m buying. But like I said before, I’m getting $1500 over Kelley blue book private party sale. That’s over $3000 more than anyone else was willing to give me on the trade so the out the door bottom line was by far the lowest of any of the dealers. It sounds like you’re in the same situation so that might be the best you’re going to be able to do. and in my opinion you’re getting a very good deal due to your trade value. There isn’t much hard data on trade values so it’s hard to say what people are getting but I think generally people believe that they can only get what bluebook says the trade value is on a vehicle.

I'm not getting anything for my trade-in. It's worth nothing really. I think you may have misread, but all input is appreciated greatly.
