So what does everybody do with Mr Hankey when your off the beaten path? Dig a hole? Bag it like a dog? Squeeze hard until you hit a gas station? Wrappon Green toilet? 5 gallon Home Depot bucket? Just plop it on the ground?

We typically just bury our bum ropes but the wife has been wanting to get something to sit on. What do you guys do?

A lot of camp sites have toilets these days. When they don't I'm mostly a hole guy. River trips get the groover.

Always a hole when there is no other alternative. Otherwise, I make use of best option available.

Use a doubled bagged 5 gallon plastic bucket with a "Luggable Loo" snap on toilet seat cover. Throw in a handful of pine needles or kitty litter to keep smell down. Deposit bags in a dumpster when trip is over.
For one time use, did a small hole and then cover over. Don't pollute.

I keep WAG bags from mountaineering/backpacking trips where I go through rocky places with sensitive vegetation or waterways and fail to poop. The park service here in CA will give you a few for free. My kids love any sort of exotic methods and locales for relieving themselves, and WAG bags are that.

Definitely at least dig a trench and bury your poop. We have nasty human stuff in our diet and GI that fouls up the environment in ways that scat does not.

My wife seems equally grossed out or displeased with any option beyond a clean toilet, which is why she usually lets us three go be animals without her.

    So...empathizing and following.

Lol, so does my boy. We use a 5 gal bucket and a snap on toilet seat with double dooty bags and my boy acts like it's the high life.

I once shit in a cardboard box at a remote job site that had no toilets. Nothing beats the cleaning power of terry cloth
