I'm taking the family wheeling this weekend, nothing heavy, just FS roads and such.

I want to start using a GPS and tracking rides, roads, etc. Can someone point me in the right direction to get started? I'm looking for app recommendations and gps markers for where to go for some trail ideas.

I have an iPad mini I can use, but it doesn't have an onboard GPS chip, so I'd rather stick with using my Android phone. It has a built in GPS chip that works well for offline google maps and such, so I think it should be well-suited to this application.

I’m a big fan of Gaia. I have the premium version to get all the MVUM maps

Same here. I ended up buying the 5 year premium since it was on sale.
I also got AllTrails as well.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!

Good recommendation. I just played with that a while, seems great. Are the MVUM maps just included with premium? Is there a gpx somewhere?

I figured out how to import GPXes and found a few on georgiaoverland.com about the traverse, which gives me a lot of options. https://www.georgiaoverland.com/download.html for reference later.

I also found this in another thread - this map is awesome: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/v...ll=34.697598115159764,-83.65039049126608&z=10 - I may just mark a trailhead and make my own tracks. Anyone have a GPX version of this link? Lots are a part of the traverse link, but there's more from there.

I’m sure you can find GPX links for individual areas if you plan in advance! I just did the premium to get MVUM so I wouldn’t have to

GA traverse is a great place to start with Gaia. That was my first trip. The premium did help me route around a road closure while staying in the woods since I already had visibility to all the MVUM

In a fictitious former female presidential race, I'd vote for her over Hilary.

I've only used it once, but I was impressed with the free version of Gaia. I'd stick with that and download the gpx files you want. One recommendation from @Sprocket1505 is to download the map in advance. Having a dot on a white screen because you can't get reception kind of sucks.

I don’t use the the sit on models. We just roll with Standers.
I will ask around though. You know the year and hrs on it?

Who’s got a white second gen double cab with a camper top what I assume was a pelfrybilt bumper...had a pelfrybilt sticker on the side window. Just saw it in Blue Ridge

Y’all might already know about this place but if not, check it out ...was a great time today. They have a walk through, petting zoo, and drive through.

Got Sams or Costco? They sell some pretty good kits from time to time, at a reasonable price last I saw them.
