I don’t think there are any boot lickers in here. Those you label so, are just those that have accepted the situation as it is, are grateful for the product/service that is provided, and have set their expectations accordingly. And so, their frustrations are much more manageable.

I too had bought into the hand-helds last year, only to realize that shortly after that, there were issues with the 2018+ vehicles on the HH platform. Not his fault. I waited ~ 6 months for a resolution. And then it took another 2-3 months of communication with OVTune to get a refund on the device.

I could have had a fit and blasted the forum with my dissatisfaction, but instead I took the patient route and eventually it was sorted out. Perhaps I have a soft spot for independent business owners. Perhaps I’m a pushover. Perhaps there are no other options out there and so my recourses are limited. Or perhaps I’m an informed consumer. No matter how I’m labeled, I bought into this particular tuning culture with my eyes wide open, so have set my expectations accordingly. I haven’t been disappointed in the product(s). I’ve been disappointed in timelines, but not in the effort or genuineness of the developer.

I should have been more clear, in that I'm not referring to people like you who can have a logical dialogue. I mean the folks who come in here and shout down everyone who raises a concern or doesn't like something about the tune.

Actually with testing (which is the most important part) it can take exceptionally long, especially given all the nuances of the platform and differences among ECUs

IMO. Most smart people willing to drop this kinda money on a tune will do a little research on said tune(s)

Myself personally, I knew what I was getting into because I did my due diligence. Not trying to say you’re dumb. I totally get that this thread is a mumbo jumbo of bs. Including this post.

I get it. Like I said, if the info was easier to find or in a centralized location it would reduce some of the frustration here - IMO the company web site should be the single source of truth and should be complete. I did do quite a bit of research, but my year was listed as compatible on the site - that should be where the buck stops rather than needing to read through a 3k+ page forum thread.

Hey guys, I am looking at purchasing this. I have a 2016 Tacoma TRD and have only used 93 grade gasoline in the truck since purchase. I have added a lift and bigger tires than just stock. What tune have you added to your Tacoma that is working best for you? I'm new to this but willing to learn. Thanks!

Those are the guys that have been with Ovtune since the beginning! They understand how it all has worked from the beginning the ups and downs! They know it hasn't been perfect but it does work! The frustration comes in when you have new buyers come in DON'T read instructions, don't read Mats post's, Cant follow his directions! Most answers are usually a few post back if they just would read previous post's . Those are also the guys that have helped so many get tunes loaded, get laptops, get updates to ECU's! It all works out in the end Mat doesn't leave anyone behind! Yes we all have waited for tunes to be released or updates. There is a good reason for it in most all case's! He wants the tunes to be the best they can be and for final 2.0 Mat is trying make everyone happy with the final release! Thats a big deal trying to make all us different style of Tacoma drivers (TRUCK BUILDS) Happy! You also have to remember OVtune consists of 2 guys doing all this work! These to 2 guys also have lives and families to think about and be with! Oh yeah lets throw a world wide Pandemic into the process! So again be patient no matter how long it takes and know you will get your tune! The tune will be the best it can be!

You would most likely run the stock gear- 32"-33" tire tune with 91OL. Cant remember if there is a 93 specific tune.

I had to tow 13,000lbs a couple weeks ago with the dreaded soft tow strap. Only complaint is the throttle was way too touchy and I kept tugging the strap taught if it got any slack into it

Having the brittle boys put you on ignore is the best way to filter out bad information when you do have a question. They're always the first to run in pretending they know things they have no clue about.

The only product we have had issues with where we couldn't deliver on is handhelds, ran by an outside company. And we are working with each individual for their needs(swap, refund, etc).

This tune is in development, actively.
What I think everyone is really confused about is they think buying this tune they are buying 2.0. Thats not the case.
Nobody is buying 2.0 or has bought 2.0 update.

This is why everyone keeps thinking we aren't getting them what they paid for, because they think they bought something they didn't.

When you buy the tune you're buying it with the current released tuned versions + free updates on future versions.

ECT functionality works just fine on the 2020 tune, if you don't understand how gearlock works that's not a problem with our tune that's a problem with lack of understanding.

Tune releases will always be betas until we have a new full version release done. Just because the tune says "metal doesn't mean it's not a tune.

What exactly did you purchase that got put on the back burner?

This is just your individual experience.
Several other 2020 owners don't have such problems. Our tune has even helped with some 2020s that have unstable idle.

Considering that all 2020 Ecu versions have been supported, beta or otherwise, not sure how you can say that we released it 6 months before it was done.

This confusion comes from people who are buying this THINKING they are buying 2.0.
That's not how it works and has NEVER been how it works.
When you buy our kit you are buying current available versions + future free updates.

Very, very few companies offer free tune updates 2-3 years later, but we do. So yeah it can take a little longer, and we can't have every egg in the tacoma tuning basket. Otherwise we would have to charge for updates. Nobody wants that.

To be clear, for everyone reading who may be confused. When you buy our tunes, etc you are buying CURRENT available versions + free future releases.

You are NOT buying a version that doesn't exist yet.

Complainers will complain. They will blame us (of course), we have already addressed that we are working on updating and centralizing information to make it simpler.
But to say the tune is broke because you don't understand gearlock current implementation is just wrong.

Oh and Rafael and I have finished 2.0 files for EVERY ECU,

So not only did it not get put on the back burner but we have been working and adding to it this whole time.

Yes it was delayed. For several, good reasons. And throughout the hundreds of pages here you can see all of the different things we tested, variations in code, tables, etc.

I honestly, truly can't wait for the day another tuner comes to this platform with promises of *finished* tunes ready to go in 1 or 2 files never needing updated again. I laugh at the idea.

It will take any company, big or small, months upon months to fully comprehend tuning this drivetrain. If you think you can just walk into any dyno shop that has Zero experience with a tacoma and come out with a rock solid perfect tune, gooooooood luck. You can't even properly tune the transmissions high gears on a dyno due to load variance. Which means they need to get the truck on the highway for hundreds of miles.
And that will all be done fast? Lol..

So yes, it's a slow process.
We aren't just tweaking ignition, throwing a little fuel at it and calling it done.
This isn't like 90s Honda tuning.
Tuning the engine and transmission is very time consuming.
There have been many times 2 weeks worth of development and testing was totally scrapped, start over, etc.
Why? Because it simply did not drive well long term.

Not to mention "corona" kind of crapped on my development time. People seem to forget that? Kind of hard right now to be out on the street doing daily development when both my kids are home from schools closed since end of february.

So that's why our kit has always been you are buying current version + future free updates.
