Any woodworkers?

Cut down a big walnut tree yesterday. Any of you guys have experience / would recommend trying a chainsaw mill, or should I find a local sawmill and haul it out to them?

 

Gun stocks and pistol grips? Jk my dad had one just rough cut at a local mill and I'm actually using a few boards to case out the transition between the existing room and the add on for the laundry room we are doing... Its hard from what I hear...

 

Id take it to a mill.

don’t forget to paint the ends to avoid checking!

 

reason being there are typically nails or other metal that are in the tree. When the mill hits them, it's typically fairly costly because of the damage they do to the blades of the mill

 

I've been acquiring a bunch of tools lately to get back into woodworking. so far, have an angle grinder, a couple drills and impact driver, circular saw, jigsaw, sawzall, a kreg jig, and a bunch other doodads. building a couple workbenches right now, then get into other projects

BTW, the first pic isn't 20 years of wear, it's actually the result of someone that claimed that they knew how to sand and stain floors.

They were just giving you the antique look.

 

Funny thing is that's what I've been saying.. The grain looks exactly like American cherry, but it's actually very yellow like pine.
I know it's not maple, and I don't think it's ash or alder..

I meant to say "I know it's not maple". It's definitely not pine either (or heart pine).
I've been sanding floors for 30 and haven't seen this. I'm going to ask my buddy that's a vendor..

Thanks to all for the advice a couple days ago. I found a guy with a portable mill who came and sliced it up for me.

Now to dry it then figure out what to do with all this walnut ...

 

Man I wish I lived closer to take some of that off your hands !!
