Hello all. My 2016 Taco is having a problem in that the automatic transmission selector feels sticky when I move from P to any other gear. Almost like there's a bad rubber bushing or something in the selector below the centre console that's making it difficult to move. I haven't explored any cable issues to the transmission, I don't know if this model yr still uses cables.

    Anyone had a similar experience?

    Thx

Problem solved. Tore apart the console, no issues there. Disconnected the cable to the tranny, shifter assembly moves like new. Cable disconnected at tranny, this is clearly the problem. Will replace the cable assembly this coming week or as soon as I can get parts.

    Cheers

Hmm. Can these cables be lubricated like motorcycle control cables? If I replaced bike cables every time one got sticky I would have starved years ago.

Yes, you can get at either end and get some oil into the sleeve. Assuming the ends are where the binding is taking place. At the trans end it's a bit tricky without a lift but certainly doable.

Hi, thanx for the info. I'm a bit confused...

Did you disconnect the cable from the tranny and find that the cable was binding and needing oiling....?? Then you said "shifter assembly moves like new". Is this on the tranny..? So the cable is the culprit..?

I just got the same issue......!!

    Thanx man.

The transmission range sensor is probably binding. Replace the sensor and you should be all set.

You replaced yours? What was your issue/symptom? How did you narrow it down to the range sensor? Location on the AC60?

Range sensor/park neutral switch is a common failure on GX460. If a P0705 doesn’t set, the shifter is usually very stiff.
