Coolant levels are frustrating!

Yeah, take it to the dealer, minimum, let it get recorded. Future shit pops up, u have a leg to stand on.

 

Hell yeah. Yeah what in the hell there’s no visible leaks anywhere lol and this is where it’s at now

 

Is that hot level? Check under / around passengers footwell for any leaking. I guess you’d smell it though. The oil looks normal caramel?

 

That is cold level! Haven’t drove it in hours. Oils good. Nothing on pas side

 

You don't have a stethoscope do you? Might be worthwhile to get one on Amazon and probe the rear of the motor.

Dope thanks! Yeah I don’t have one, Toyota seems super slow so I’m just ganna take it in. Was really trying to if possible find the culprit so I dint have dimwits playing around for 5 days in my truck.

Nope. I can’t wait to see what Toyota tells me, this is going to be interesting. “Sorry we were unable to find the cause, but we put more Fluid in.. here’s a invoice for 200$ for a bottle of coolant”

 

They can (and hopefully should) pressurize the cooling system, possibly help narrow down the area effected. Make sure u let them know u want a full diag. I've been in before where all they wanted to do was get an initial overview, then reschedule a real diag after confirming complaint.

 

probably low coolant level initially in the radiator and its sucking the resovoir to maintain a full rad.

after looking deeper in the engine, I see some splatter. Unless the resovoir spits up time to time, I’m assuming something is spitting out somewhere. So the level went down to low again, should I try and fill the resi back up? Or just leave it low to take it in that way?

 

I think you should stop driving it till you sort it out. Get a scope and pull the plugs and take a look at the top of the piston and see if it’s being steam cleaned

Where do u see splatter? The vent for the expansion tank is in the front of the tank. (facing the firewall)

 

There was some dried up splatter looking around there, I wiped it clean to see if I could recreate it.. no issue. Never had the truck overheat or anything. Maybe she just likes having that exact amount in the resi. Lol

Whatever your issue is, take meticulous notes with Toyota. I think this is one of the first of its kind. Be adamant with procuring details, what caused it, how they came to that conclusion, pics of the failed part etc. We all wanna know.

Just a data point here.
I saw something similar on a honda vtec engine.
Pressure test, no leak.
Hydrocarbon contamination test on coolant, no color change.
Continued to lose coolant.
No discernable reason for coolant loss.
Decide to remove head, and check head, and gasket.
Found multilayer gasket had delamination.
It was allowing coolant to seap between the layers and enter the cylinder.
Replaced head gasket, problem disappeared.

Again NOT a Tacoma. Similar problem.
