The kids being familiar with this stuff used to freak me out. I was doing an agency exchange in plain clothes with my badge around my neck. A 10 year old kid asked me if it was fake because it didn't look like the local agency's badge.

 

10-12 was the same for all the Atlanta departments

I was undercover one day in plain clothes and a work van. I pulled into a neighborhood and almost immediately a little kid walked up to me and asked me if I was there to arrest his dad.

10 codes do vary by local,State and cities.... City of Tampa was not the same as Hillsborough County

Part of the 9/11 commission report recommended eliminating or unifying 10 codes across the nation. One of the issues found after 9/11 was that the different jurisdictions were not able to communicate effectively. Recommendations were to unify them or eliminate them and use plane language. SE Michigan went to plane language until they got the 10 codes figured out. They also did a lot of work to get a state wide radio channel dedicated to unified communications.

 

No, we were just moving his stuff to a storage unit, so I get to do this again in August. Congrats on your son! Mine is a rising senior but is planning to do a 5th year to get his accounting masters.
