That’s a great combo you have there. Are those Countersteer Type X wheels?

Are you planning on even larger tires, or do you want to regear for this size?

They are! Yes. Thanks for the kind words. I've always loved how perfectly the wheels match the truck. Plus I can't say enough good things about the team over at FN Wheels. Great customer service.

No. Definitely not planning on going larger with the tires.

Alright folks, well, the saga continues. Haha. Not really, but it appears I'm not quite done. Let me know if this should be posted on another thread somewhere. Still applies to the 275, but going down the rabbit hole too.

So, as stated, I drove from Blue River, OR down to Grants Pass, OR (about 3 hours) yesterday to have Mike from Mike's Custom Toys rebuild my Icon Stage II suspension. When I got down there I told him that, in addition to the suspension rebuild, I was hoping to raise the front a bit to clear the new tires and alleviate any rubbing. Well, when we started looking at it, we realized that if we raised the front much more, I'd have the dreaded bro lean where the front is higher than the rear. Clearly not an option. So I upgraded to the Wheeler 805 leaf pack and I think the rear is just slightly too high. Mike said it should settle about 0.5" - 1" over the next 500-1000 miles. I'm gonna be up clearing some logging roads the next few days so will get it into the dirt pretty soon. Hopefully all that bumping around helps it settle. If it doesn't, I think I'll have to have a leaf removed. It's just too raked for my liking at the moment and I don't want to raise the front anymore in fear of making the tires look too small. In fact, when I got home last night I was kinda tripping thinking that the whole truck was too high and I was having the same problem I had with the 265s where the tires looked too small because of the lift. Now that I slept on it, I think the front is fine still and just hoping the rear drops a bit as the new leafs settle.

First and third pics are from before the suspension rebuild when I came home with the new 275 Falkens. Second and fourth pic is this morning after the rebuild, front raise and new leafs.

Regardless, the suspension rebuild was necessary and the truck is driving and handling like a dream. I'm glad I finally did the rebuild. Makes a huge difference.

What do you all think? Interested to hear your thoughts.

Lastly, I honestly can't say enough good things about Mike and his crew down there at Mike's Custom Toys. I'd do the drive without thinking twice just to have the peace of mind that they were working on my rig. If you live in Oregon or Northern California (the real Northern California, not SF), I'd highly suggest using Mike for any mods. Great people. Phenomenal mechanics.

Nope! Not one bit. I've only taken it off-road twice, just ripping around some logging roads, but definitely turned all traction off and was whipping some fun fish tales at speed around hairpins and through mud puddles. Still no rubbing. Maybe if I was crawling over some logs or rocks or something, but that's not really my style. Got some Rokblokz mud flaps today. Hopefully the rubbing doesn't return, but I don't think it will because they're very low-profile. Rear end seems to be settling too. Maybe? Hard for me to tell, but rear seems a little lower than when I first brought it home post suspension rebuild/new leafs. Thanks for asking!

Looks great. It’s good to be a little taller in the rear so it settles out with gear. At least in my opinion.

Agreed. The thing is, there's already a plywood sleeper platform, mattress topper, sleeping bags, pillows, a chainsaw, gasoline, a gallon of chain and bar oil, 3 surfboards, 2 wetsuits, 2 fly rods, waders and wading boots back there in this pic. Haha. Always kinda geared up.

I agree that the rear looks a little high. I don't think it will settle quite as much as you are hoping, at least not in the near future. Removing a leaf may be the way to go.

Edit: Just saw the updated pic. Maybe give it a little more time to settle. Removing a leaf might end up creating a bro lean. Can you go up a little in the front to level it out?

Hey thanks for chiming in. It seems to be settling bit by bit each day. Going to give it the full 1,000 miles before I make a decision. Right now I am sitting at about 600 since I put it in. Might remove a leaf. Or buy a bigger chainsaw.

I've been going back and forth between going with 275/70r17 and 265/70r17 for months and just when I think I've decided, I go back to pondering the pros and cons. I will not be doing a CMC or any cutting on the truck, so at first I assumed that meant I HAD to stay with 265s, but then I found this thread where many claim to be running the 275/70r17s with a modest lift (2" max) and have no rubbing. I do go offroad in this truck...and it will be a very heavy rig when I'm done kitting it out, around 7000 pounds, so a smaller tire would preserve more of the truck's power. Anyway...I'm still conflicted.

I don’t know how people could be running stock with no rubbing. I have the icon stage two and was rubbing when fully locked. Raised the front up a little bit and it seems to have alleviated the issue unless I am turned all the way to the left or right while wheeling over or through something.

Not sure what wheels you're running, but I think some people forgot that wheel offset is a huge factor in tire fitment. Most aftermarket wheels poke out more than stock wheels which generally increases the chances of rubbing. My factory TRD OR wheels have +25 offset, but I'm switching to the 4Runner TRD wheels which have +4 offset (about an inch more poke than stock), so with no lift 275s on those wheels would definitely rub, but I'm thinking a 2 inch lift should be enough for them to fit nicely.

Yes, yes, good point. I am running the countersteer type X with a -10mm offset. So probably needed that little extra boost in lift to clear.

This the exact suspension set up I have and I'm wanting to go to the same wheel set up. Have you had to do any trimming yet and have you taken it out on gravel roads, pot holes etc. I don't wheel other then minor stuff during hunting season.

    Love it it looks great
