I smell BS for sure but why would a dealer ever lie to a customer?

My wife took my '09 in for it's first service (5K). She works next door to the dealer.

I asked her to tell them not to cut the gas pedal.
So OK, they just wrote down owner doesn't want pedal cut and didn't do any of the recall, which is fine.

And then she asked them about using a 2011 pedal instead and the service guy told her it was a completely different setup and it would not work in an '09.

Is that BS? Or will they not work on an older truck?
I smell BS for sure but why would a dealer ever lie to a customer?

it might be BS, but u never know, i guess u would have to look and see how they are set up.

When i test drove a frontier, they guy told me to pass the street of all the car dealerships, and turn on the next block, then go the back way and pull up to nissian, since it was at the end of the car dealership strip, then i asked y, and he honestly told me that he didnt want me to drive past toyota and ford as im driving the nissian cuz i might of found a better deal on the way back to the nissian dealership, i told him that was pretty honest, and he was right cuz i got a taco, lol.

I had mine in for the transmission flash and a service writer asked if I wanted my pedal re-shaped while I was there, I politely asked if I could get a new pedal instead and she quickly replied no. So, I refused and was told that I would need to sign a release waiver, so I did. Then my original service writer is going thru my paperwork and glances at the release waiver and asked why, I told her I didn't want it to be re-shaped so I refused to have it done, she then asks if I would like to have a new pedal installed instead of the re-shape. The service writer that refused the new pedal jaw hit the floor and said we can't do that, then the cat fight began. The new pedal is getting installed next week.

It says right on the recall notice that if your unhappy with the cut a new one can be ordered and installed. I had mine done and was planning on complaining to get the new pedal but the trim looks good... I really have to look to even know it got cut.

Well I'll be damned...a dealer WOULD lie to a customer! Maybe even an entire corporation would.

OK, thanks for that info scott504. I suspected so. I will be bringing this gas pedal BS up next time I'm there. And the lie, haha.

And by the way, has anybody figured out why a 4Runner doesn't get the gas pedal mod? They are pretty much identical.

I work for a Toyota dealer as a tech so I resent hondagm's comment, but at the same time I agree with him. As for the pedals yes we reflash the computers for the pedal cut. The new truck pedals have already been modified at the factory and already has the new reflash program so no the '11 pedals will not work in the 05-09 tacos

I forgot to mention that the pedal cut is NOT necessary it's there because to many MORONS were stacking to many floor mats in their vehicles. Example: factory floor mat then on top another floor mat then news paper then a rug then more paper and final another floor mat. If you have a carpet floor mat or a toyota all weather mat just make sure that it is clipped in place and DONT add extra mats on top of the ones you already have in there. I will not cut mine because 1 I'm not stupid, 2 I run Toyota all weater mats all year long.

FUCKING MORONS are the cause of these recalls:mad::mad::mad:

Yep, 99% of all recalls are because of someone that hurts themselves doing something stupid and then sues

You are a tech, maybe you know, what pedal do they put in there if you are not satisfied with a modified one?

The recall notice does say, "In the event you are not satisfied with the modification of your accelerator pedal after it is completed, a replacement accelerator pedal will be offered".

scott504, keep us posted after yours gets installed please.

Yes you are right Toyota does offer a replacement pedal, but that is only after the original was modified. This is avalible if you have had the pedal cut but you didnt like the way it cut or when the tech cuts your pedal sometimes there air pockets in the plastic from when it was molded and depending on the size of the hole they should replace it if the hole is to big. You can also make a big stink at dealer that you dont want yours cut and you just want the damn thing replaced instead, but you will still have to get reflash. We have more than a few customers go that route. So in the end the choice is all yours. Have fun if you pick the second option :D:D:D

I WILL NOT CUT MY PEDAL OR REPLACE IT.........IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT
