Long term goal is having a chainsaw. It's not high on the list right now, though.

    That’s what she said....

I just carry bigger bars. Nothing to special honestly... 18 and 24.

Agree with Tim, you will be fine with a long bed.

And you don't have to worry about gas. Can keep it in there all the time without taking up much space. On my buy list now.

I played in some gravel for a bit, but not too much. Was early in the day when I was there and I was focused on exploring as much as possible that day. I was fairly sure I could make some of the trails. Walked a fair way on a couple. Didn't want to do it alone though. I must have gotten in and out of my truck 80+ times that day. Between breaking sticks, checking clearances on places I was playing in, and dropping a piece of lumber on my leg the day before, I was hurting by the time I got home. Not old, but man sure do feel like it on days like that.

I went up some of those gravel hill climbs, but not all of them. Was just playing around. Only had to lock the diff for one of them. I didn't do the ones on the far left. They were pretty muddy and rutted out. Looked like the truck might slide into the bank so I skipped it that day. Haha.

No substitute for a good saw. I carried a Shindaiwa with me when I was still in Oregon. Left it with my Dad when I moved to Montana. Not as many downed trees out here like there were back home.

Still need bar oil tho, so if you're carrying that might as well carry a small canister of mix gas. I have used the Milwaukee electric saw (had access to one when I worked at Portland Parks) It worked well enough and cut great, but if I needed a dependable saw that I would want to rely on all day I'd be getting a traditional saw from a reputable brand (Stihl, Husky, I liked my Shindaiwa)

I know Goat well... Grew up 5 mins away, lots of areas to explore and many jeep trails. The trails are off the roads and in most cases 33's, sliders and skids are required.

So then is hillcockburn the right way to access it?

I have the Oregon brand 18inch 40V and it kicks Milwaukee's ass! I always have it in my rig running trails so I can let you check it out next time!

There is one trail that connects from Hillock Burn to Goat and it isn't bad except the trail stripes as its a skinny trail.

Then that is probably why I haven’t seen much exciting trails. I have been taking Hillcockburn and going up to the towers. I took another route one time and turned back cause it was a little more than I wanted to get into solo.

You all have convinced me I need to head out to goat mt next time I go out solo. Looks fun.

Are you saying you carry bar oil for a folding hand saw (the silky at the bottom of every page in this thread)? I don't think I would ever do that.

Updated the OP. Next meetup tentative date Sunday June 14th, Browns camp.
