I’ve really enjoyed the afternoon openings on 10m here lately into the South Americas

It’s usually afternoon to early evening for me down here when the band opens.

You can watch this propagation map to see when the band starts to open also.

Made my own bracket, installed my Kenwood tmv71a behind the rear seats. Clean install. Mounted the head on the dash.

Probably just timing and conditions. I hit 5 10m contacts while driving in the truck Saturday in about half an hr.

6m was open all weekend too. My buddy worked steady for a couple hrs

I heard some JT9 on 10m yesterday. Looking at DX maps the 10m contacts reported are mostly low speed data and some CW.

If you wait for sales you can find 7300s for $900 new at hro. They're super nice rigs.

Plus bang for buck I'd rather just a uhf, VHF radio without ssb in order to get the nice waterfall of the 7300 and other features.

    Lol. Oh boy. Well.

I have a Kenwood Tm-v71a for my UHF VHF rig set up for Aprs.

My first hf rig was a Yaesu Ft-891. I wanted something I could take camping with me. Now I actually use that radio 75% of the time and almost always in the truck or woods.

My radio at home is a Yaesu Ftdx-3000. That was my buy once cry once big boy radio. I'll have this thing until the revolutionize radios, which I won't assume they'll be doing any time soon. It's a fantastic radio and I'm going to love it even more when I can get some bigger antennas up at the house.

But even with the more expensive radio, I still use that ft-891 5 times for every 2 or 3 times I use the ftdx. I just really enjoy operating in remote places.

Edit: @vorkuta775 there's also the yaesu 991 you can look into as well. Same as the 7100 with the UHF VHF and HF, with a waterfall. Talk to @medic2230 about it.

dude nice setup! HOW IN TF did you get the control head of the 71a to stick with that adhesive pad on the separation kit for the radio? I tried everything to get it to stick last night and it did not work, so I ended up cutting it with some tin snips and just putting one bigger self tapping screw on the dash. I was gonna go the metal track up top and mount it on a ram ball but it would have stuck up pretty high above the dash
