Just had my 2008 inspected a second time and the dealer found a hole and are submitting to Toyota for approval! The first inspection I had was last year at a closer dealer who didn’t think I had a hole.

Wish me luck fellas! My expiration day was June 23. Made it just in time...

Make sure that dealer leaves the repair order open, being that close something like that Toyota could screw you on.

I had my checked during the recall - and checked out fine... Would anyone recommend any particular undercoatings? If so, which ones?

Do the body mount bushings get replaced as part of this frame replacement deal now or should I pick some up and have them replace them?

Mine weren't replaced as of a year ago. That may have changed, :dunno:

i wonder if anyone has compiled a list of
    - highly recommended additional work
    - medium priority additional work
    - random upgrades that might be desired (Exhaust headers? Tow hitch?)

I’m going to have to decide what to do once mine gets approved.... waiting for the word.

I have not seen a list. Just basic stuff. Waterpump, timing cover, rear main seal, cab bushings, motor and trans mount were a few of the things I saw. We will see what they find on mine next week. I did order OEM cab bushings, motor mounts and trans mount.

Dealer called and informed me that Toyota has approved my frame replacement.

I am ok with the dealer who inspected it to do the work, but a frame will take 30-60 days. Can I pick another dealer if I want? I don’t have any written paperwork showing approval but I assume it’s “in the system”?

I think once it's approved by corporate, the reporting dealer is locked in. And most dealers would probably fight to keep the work as they bang it out pretty damn fast with hours left over that corporate has paid them for. Almost like free/bonus money to the dealer. Corporate books it out at 40 or just over 40hrs of labor, and most dealerships are doing it in 35-38hrs or quicker I'm sure at east coast dealerships where they have probably done the huuunnnndreds or even 1000+ of them since this frame problem began.

The frame is literally made to order specifically to each case number, it's not like they keep them on the shelf in the back. So there is some lead time on that. Also depending on the configuration, parts/fit kits can be in short supply and, in my case some parts had to come from Japan.

If you're not in possession of your truck currently, I'd say you don't have a high chance of changing venue, if you do, find away to get a copy of that approval in your hand and I'm sure any dealer that reads it, and calls corporate to confirm its its authenticity will take the job yesterday.

My frame is being replaced and when I went there to look I was told the rear break hoses were seized and I’d have to pay. It looked like they couldn’t get them apart. Not exactly sure what was going on.
According to the law suit in regards to incidentals wouldn’t the hoses fall under that?

The hoses are not covered in the settlement. However... The lawsuit states “at no cost to the owner”. So, if you really want to argue the fact, you may get the hoses for free, but hoses are such a small cost, that, I would just pay for them. Now if they want to charge you $250 for labor to put them on, that’s the time to go ballistic on them.

Good point. I’m probably going to have the do the steering rack and timing cover. And maybe real main. I’ll get a price tomorrow.

Do you know where in the law suite is says that? I have it printed out.

    Good point..

They they want to replace all the rubber hose break lines,I think he said there was 6. $225 for the parts, no labor cost. Then $1500 for the timing cover, includes value cover gaskits, new water pump and gaskits. And the plugs. Not sure why. A few other things. Also, recommend to replace the steering rack. Part cost is $575 for NKG I think he said or $919 for OEM. and $75 labor to install. So $2575 to do all the work.

There's been people to have the rack covered. Not due to normal wear and tear, but the dealer explicitly stated it was rusty. Anything they said needs replaced due to rust, afaik should be covered. Ymmv.

OK.. Mine was not rusty at all.. It looks as though it was leaking. I could see it on one side of the boot. They were surprised how little there was for the truck being an 09.. I am the original owner and had have always maintained it. I am going to be proactive and put the money into it, I plan on keeping it for a long time to come. With the bushing/cab mounts Ill have about 3150 into it. Seems like money well spent to me. Now Ill have almost half a brand new truck. Close enough...

I got approved for replacement just before the pandemic, and was told THEN that it would be a 4 to 6 month wait. Who knows now. I'm in the same boat as far as compiling a list of worthwhile repairs while it's apart. 135k amd I think a clutch makes sense. Shocks, plugs, muffler, brakes. Was quoted right around 3 grand with all OEM parts.

I Did the shocks and coil overs about 2 months ago.. Plugs I do often. I replaced the rotors and pads with OEM last year. They didnt say anything about the muffler/exhaust. I had to wait about 6weeks and I live in the Denver area.
