So am I going to mess my headlights up running the amber in DRL?

If you have Tacoma SR5, you can as long as you have fuse tap wires that came with the package.

Well idk what the reasoning is but they say running Amber is bad. So basically I can’t turn my stalk to the drl or parking light position. Without risking “damaging” the lights.

I’ll turn them once in a while for pics. But don’t run them in that position because I don’t want to “damage” them. I’m still not sure what the risk damage is and it is unfortunate I cannot use the other positions on my stalk because that means I cannot run my fogs without also running the headlights

I believe I read somewhere that the amber LEDs were intended for turn signals and have resistors to prevent hyper flashing and running them steady for extended periods could over heat the resistors.

Mine work and I ran them like that until I read those posts. Now I am hesitant to run them in amber unless I get confirmation from Morimoto that it won't burn them up.

I haven't tried the fuse tap on mine since my truck isn't SR5.

I posted about the amber feature about awhile back... that Matt discussed it with Andrew.

See the screenshot in the post in the link I provide you:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ights-thread-16.594520/page-124#post-23448193

If TRS think it's issue, then why the amber DRL is on there that is on. Not making sense.

I am with Matt on this one. So if you have SR5, feel free to use it.

I haven't call or email to Morimoto yet for confirmation. You can ask.

Just Got these installed on my sr5 and they look amazing.

I can also confirm that on the sr5 your white DRLs will always be on when you have the lights set to off (fine by me). They show as Amber in the 1st and 2nd light mode and switch back to white DRLs when you have all the lights on.

One small issue: my DRLs randomly turned on in the middle of the night. It's my 1st night with them. Has this happened to anyone? It lit up the while street. I confirmed that pulling door handles etc does not turn on the lights so nobody was breaking in.

Sorry for the confusion with the amber DRLs folks! Spoke to Matt a bit more in depth this morning, as well as consulted the factory for confirmation so we're all on the same page:

Put simply: There is nothing wrong with it in regards to the LED's and their own reliability...the only downside is that power is constantly passing through the resistors for the turn signal circuit, so it will get hot....likely fail prematurely. This ultimately may cause damage to the back of the headlight since its mounted to the plastic... whereas in a normal turn signal scenario it barely heats up. So if you remove the resistor and/or don't care if you have to replace it sometime...not really a huge deal.

Hope this helps clarify for all (myself included!)

For whatever reason, some trucks turn on their ECUs randomly even with no key in the ignition (status checks?). When this happens, since we use the same fuse, boom the DRLs come on. If you use a voltmeter/multimeter, you may be able to find another fuse to tap into for the ignition-on circuit instead, or ultimately run it to a manual switch inside so there's 0% chance of it recurring.

Thanks for this. So the resistors are necessary for turn signal hyper flash, correct? Also, can they be easily removed or would I have to dismantle and reseal the light? Just want to see if it is worth it since I really like the amber look.

They are necessary for the turn signal, that's correct. They should be just a couple screws on the back of the housing holding them on--nothing requiring opening the housings.

Cool. Just 2 more dumb questions: By removing the resistors you mean mounting them to something other than the back of the unit? Letting them hang? About how much are they to replace?

Removing them, not relocating them. Yes you would then have hyperflash.

If outside of warranty probably $10/ea. Otherwise the warranty will cover it.

Appreciate it, Andrew. Now I am curious what hyper flashing sequentials look like. :anonymous:
