Meh... no need to be sensitive about it. Mediocre article from an author who doesn’t understand the industry. What are you gonna do. Fake news

I personally think the the performance of my Tacoma has significantly increased for what I use it for. Then he follows up by saying "Just as the Fast and Furious movie franchise inspired people to bolt giant wings to the back of front-wheel drive cars in the 2000s..." which actually helps with weight distribution. Guy sounds VERY ignorant on automotives in general and should stop embarrassing himself.

It’s not fake news. It is however a lame magazine authors opinion.

I remember the 90's when FWD domestic cars had both giant wings and roof racks.

Another quote from his old article but if you scroll down to his next, which is just a few months old, he takes an overland built Ford Ranger on a trip and literally RAVES about it.

Dude really went from a hate filled article about overlanding and its waste of money on extravagant RTT's to living the life and praising it all. Very humorous actually.

(Idk if I inserted the quotes right so we'll see.)

Sometimes when I go outside. I leave the Tacoma parked in the driveway.

Agreed. He may have changed his mind. Or not.

Most bloggers have the objective of creating click bait dollars, so they write about controversial, which may or may not include truth, facts or even their true opinion. Or even multiple positions.

It's an unfortunate side effect of digital 'news'.

Not to thread jack but beautiful photo. Sorry if I'm wrong but this almost looks like it was taken on film.

Yes, it is film shot in the Chilean Andes on a Canon 35mm cheapo D50, back in 2001. Thanks!

He always came off as a shill to me. He got Jalopnik cozied up to automakers, then struck out on his own. At that time, he proclaimed that a lightly modded Outback was the only offroad, pre-expedition vehicle to ever consider. I believe there was a whole whining thing about how the CVT was okay and all that.

Now, scroll down to the next article and it brings in the clickbait and the main quote source in the article.

In the end, the guy is happy to shill for whoever slides some gear his way.

He was kind of a tool on Jalop, the way he acted on Oppo wasn't any better.. His whole tactical gear bodyarmor approach to being outside was an immediate nope for me.. His big article about being a tough blackbeat hunter ended with him baiting in a bear, wounding it, then leaving because it was getting late..

Andrew Collins is much better writer, heck I'd even take David Tracy's deathmobile jeep stories before I'd pickup Outside to read a Wes article.

I completely agree! I had not read that hunting article, but it smacks of my perception of him.

Andrew Collins was always interesting and varied. With the leadership vacuum, his content fell off though.

David Tracy's and Jason Torchinski's BS subjects, writing, and complete lack of variety ended up losing me. Tracy was the embodiment of a Jalop in ideal, but wayy too nerdy in style and his projects were so ill conceived that they never had a chance, which was a turn off as they were always a 10-article investment. The weird part is that I have seen bigger basket case projects actually make it somewhere. He just didn't have the wrenching (or writing) talent to pull it off.

Yeah. I'm a bit upset that such a good outlet went to shit.
