Coolant levels are frustrating!

The glycol in the coolant wont evaporate that readily. Youre right, you should see something somewhere with that much being put in. Glycol has a reasonably high boiling point (high enough it wont boil at ambient temps) and a low vapor pressure, its not going to disappear.

Hope the dealer gets you squared away. Regardless, get your oil checked at the next change to make sure.

 

Any company rec to do that? Avg price? I wanna do what needs to be done before July 21 warranty ends lol

Looks like $30 and should be discernible on the standard test. Coolant should affect a few of the measurements they check.

If youre worried about the trans. they also do a trans fluid test. You'd have to check it yourself though, there was a DIY for how to do it. Not too difficult, I've done it myself. Once its hot enough it should trickle out enough to capture for measurement.

 

Oh it’s a joap sample basically lmao. Duh haha. Would this actually help me at the dealership? And I wonder if I could just get enough little by little from the dip stick. Fresh oil change. About 2k ago maybe less

 

I updated my last post. Not sure on the volume they need, but possibly just off the dipstick.

As far as the dealer goes, good luck. There not all bad, but I know from experience as a mechanic myself, they often dont want to hear your findings or opinions. I hope I'm wrong. Its no fun getting into an argument with a service writer or fluid tech that doesnt know or understand what theyre dealing with. Lots of actual mechanics can be characters, a lot of over confident and dismissive types in the business. I hope Im wrong.

 

Idk what the bare minimum is, but the container they give you takes quite a bit to fill. Through the dipstick would take quite a while.

 

They send you a plastic container, my guess it holds about 4-5fl oz of oil

 

My buddy at work has this same issue! It just drinks the coolant. He just keeps buying cheap stuff every few weeks lol. I’d be furious if my dew truck had this problem. Wouldn’t be surprised if it became a new issue for some

 

The coolant is lower when cold, the level goes up when hot. Make a note of where your high and lowest coolant levels are at, if the coolant level always stay within the two marks then I think maybe you just have a slightly under filled system.

 

Ya I tried. It just disappears no matter how much lol. And the radiator was full

 

Ask dealer for pressure testing your cooling system. I can only think of the rear water bypass behind the cylinder heads that is a known problem on some trucks, develops leaks. Also, look under your dash at your heater core, Im not completely sure, but I think there also was a member with a leaky heater core at one time,

 

If it's steady drinking coolant and no visual external leak, no driveability issues etc my guess is it's getting burned.

 

What rental did you get?

 

Also OP, just read where your tech diagnose leaky radiator. I’m pretty sure there was a third member who had a hairline crack in his radiator that was causing leaks.

 

Wouldn’t that they pressure test the system during this diagnoses? I asked for a full diagnostic

Ya she didn’t have any more info as of when she said the radiator was broke. So I guess I’ll have to wait til I go pick it up tomorrow, and if things aren’t perfect she will have another sleepover lol


Also ganna try and see/get a pic of the old radiator. It just seems fishy to me. I don’t want to step on their toes, but ya..
