    Hey All!

Having a problem here torquing the 4 bolts at the lower ball joint to the steering knuckle.

    2001 Prerunner.

The FSM calls for 59ft lbs in at least 3 different places in the manual.
But at those values I've already snapped one bolt and feels like the same will happen w/the others if I continue.

I've tried 2 different torque wrenches but they both are identical in torque values in everything I've tested so far.

    So the question is:
Are these the correct torquing values? It seems a lot for a 10mm diameter bolt.

    Anyone w/experience w/this?

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

Well, if it were inch pounds, that would be roughly 5ft lbs.
I was thinking maybe 30lbs max.

Don't know what the problem is, but a couple things to note: When you never seize bolts, you are actually applying a lot more torque then if the thread were dry. Are the bolts new? Rusted near the head? What grade hardware? A 10mm bolt in grade 8.8 will lift ~3600 lbs, but a grade 12.9 will lift ~12,200, (believe it or not they are strong suckers in tension). I just changed my lower ball joints and used the stock Toyota bolts, I had at least 60 ft.-lbs on them without a problem...but the truck is only 4 years old too (maybe less rust?).

Appears to be an 11T w/1.25 pitch which would max at 64lbs.
    Used.
Added just a bit of oil because of light corrosion along the length of bolt.
Maybe should have left them dry!?
Never really had a problem w/this before.
They will click at 40, but any more feels as if they will snap or strip.

I think you should use new bolts. Trying to re torque old bolts, I have been told is a bad idea.

Um, I torqued down the bottom nut attaching the ball joint of the TC UCAs to the knuckle to between 80-100 #s. Too much??

Good! I thought that was the spec... Was about to start worrying about snapping off the bolt.......
