Will be getting one myself in the future for horse/water/hay duty. But probably go for a 02era manual one.

I was hell bent on a manual, then realized that if i hurt myself (which I do) then i would be screwed. And if i needed anyone to help launch a boat or drive it, i would also be screwed. Then I wanted a nicer duramax (same year range) but realized i didn't want to spend another 6g on a fancy leather interior. So i regressed back to this one. Super super clean truck/interior. Obvious scratches here and there from wyoming use but nothing major at all. I don't want to feel bad about using it like a truck.

I have like 4...depending on who rolls through town lol. Yep, love jackson

 

read a pretty interesting interview last week from an author of a book talking about how the rich folks have changed that area so much. Had some pretty crazy data in it.

That's cool man. I'd never do a Duramax personally purely because working on it would be impossible due to how they have it all setup. Probably the same with a powerstroke.

I really want a manual too but would settle for an auto so Devin could drive it with confidence. I found the perfect truck, $14k had like 220k on it and was a 6spd, super clean and a short bed. Not ready for it though. Trying to build a house or buy. But someday!

 

I know the book you're talking about, my gf read it...now i need to. Ya the amount of money hidden here, back on ranches you'd never know existed is so unimaginable its crazy. But, i just continue to enjoy the close outdoor access to some of the best terrain in the country and ignore the billionaires.

Ya the manual common rail dodges that youre looking for are just stupid expensive for an otherwise garbage truck.

 

Yeah I don't remember the book. But sounded like an interesting look into the rich people thinking, most of which is hilirious and not possible. We looked at houses for sale there for fun after reading it and lowest one was 675k. After that, all over a mill at least.


Yeah I'd agree, but really only need it for those basic tasks. And the drive train is just awesome and lasts forever. Won't be DD it ever. Otherwise I'd look at a 2nd gen tundra maybe.

 

I'm looking for a 12 valve 5.9 myself. Duramax has 270 on it and I think it's time to find a replacement before it's dead and has no value to anyone

 

Why a 12v? Hard to find one of those with low miles and in good unmolested shape.

 

I've heard the heads are less prone to cracking since there is more metal between the valves. Would take a 24v too though.

Yeah Id be fine with a 24v.

figured for you're line of work you'd need something newer though.

 

I have a real hard time accepting the price tag of a new diesel. Especially for a depreciable asset. I cruise the yota for bids and everyday running around. The diesel just moves equip from job to job so it's not racking up too many miles these days. Figure I can get away with an older 5.9 if I find a grandpa truck or something

I still think you should rebuild the icons. Work with Tim, he'll get them to ride as good.

Old guy that ran the movie theater in Powell that I used to work at has a cherry 98 cummins 5spd I think. It's gorgeous. I told him I want it when he sells it. But he probably never will haha

Yeah did you ever rid in Zanes with icons? I thought those were great. You probably have stock valving which isn't usually as appealing on the icons. Id tweak what you have before dropping serious coin on all new shocks.


That said, I do have some kings if you want them, they need a full rebuild and new rod ends. Only have 600lb coils too if that matters. I was going to put them on the DD but it's looking like that'll will get Igors ADS's ha

 

Id opt for the revalve option personally.

I bet Zane might have some shim stack info to start with too. Think he just took his to SDHQ maybe and told them what he wanted and how much the truck weighed. i bottomed it out when I was "testing" it out but I did that by hucking it(on accident) otherwise it was stupid fun to drive. I still maintain he shouldn't have sold that thing.

 

I now believe he did the right thing. I didn't at the time. The "new" one will be much better in the long run.
