This is it... It would liquify multiple looters (i mean intruders) with one shot.

Until your "opinion" is deemed political then you get banned for a month. It is fun and worth being banned even when the Moderators don't know what is political or not.

Lol not reading this whole novel, but I see where you’re going. If you’ve read this thread you’ll find much of this has already been discussed. Congratulations to you as well.

Me and my daughter did an experiment for a school project “Ballistics testing” Which was just building some jigs and firing different caliber rounds into different materials and cataloging the results. What surprised me the most was the 12g slug. At close range they every bit the penetration as our high cal. Rifles with significantly more damage. The damage I was obviously expecting but I thought the mass would slow it down faster then the high speed rifle rounds.

    Don't laugh...22 long.

This this has 0 recoil putting hits on threat, some models hold upwards of 20+ rounds.

Will not over penetrate and become a threat to neighbors.

Doesn't cost a lot to PRATICE PRACTICE PRACTICE to become efficient.

If you just can't get past the idea of a .22 as home defense, then Mossberg 12 gage 00 buckshot

The 22 is relatively effective over time, but ineffective in short order. The need for self defence is to end a threat right then. While the characteristics of a 22 does lead to many fatilities, it does not always incapacity a target (the threat) at the moment of impact. Too often, someone shot with a 22 will bleed out internally over a longer timeframe rather than suffer a catastrophic wound that puts them on the floor in your hallway.

Who fires only one round to stop a threat?
Altho I 100% agree with your statement. I also believe you stop shooting when the threat is no longer such. You gotta be a bad mamma to continue to come at me after 5, 6,7, 8 chest hits of .22 long

I agree with this. I’m not dismissing the .22 by any means but I wouldn’t feel confident that it would put down a large man with heavy coat especially in a low light high stress situation.

The bird shot discussion is silly. There is a wider range of shotgun loads than maybe any other type of ammo out there. What you shoot at clays isn't the same as what you kill a goose with at 50 yards. If I shot someone at 10 feet with 3.5" BBB's it would explode their skull. I've seen coyotes killed dead as a doornail at range with waterfowl loads. But it's still irrelevant because if you are actually loading a shotgun for defense then you're looking at something like 00 buck which has as much stopping power as anything else at the distances you'd be shooting inside your house.

The only worthwhile info in here is to choose the weapon you are most proficient with. I've been shooting shotguns my entire life and am confident I can acquire a moving target and fire as fast or faster than the average pistol shooter can. I wouldn't use my AR as a defensive weapon in my house because I'd be concerned about where the rounds end up, but not everyone lives in a situation where that could be a problem. Pick the firearm that you are most comfortable with and practice.

First step is keep them outside so you don't need to access your firearms quickly. Not hardening the dwelling is where most folks fail. Or fail from the very start actually.

Personally, with the kids gone I could put them anywhere without that issue. But I generally keep only what ever my EDC of the day is out of the safe. Where specifically depends on when and what is I'm doing.

The Sig P220 (45 ACP for those that may not know) that I've been shooting since 1986 (hence my screen name) is easily accessed from a hidden compartment near my bed. It's always there unless I bring it to the range. Anytime I'm not sleeping and in accordance with applicable laws, I conceal carry a P220 Carry (Commander size). It's the platform I'm 1000% comfortable with.
