Yep. So much information, I did some research myself. Will be going with a full size handgun. Likely a Glock G17 or G34. I’d love a P220 but the price...

Myself and a friend both have g17s. Love them. Both of us wish we would've bought g19s instead! (you might want to cc that someday)

If you have the option, shoot as many as possible prior to purchasing. Most gun ranges rent numerous makes, models, etc. My range offers free rentals on Mondays. That's when I bring guests who are interested in trying some.

    Chainsaw in the bedroom.

Seriously - you break in to a house and hear a chainsaw fire up down the hall you're gonna crap yourself. Cuz anyone crazy enough to keep a chainsaw in the bedroom is probably crazy enough to enjoy whatever they're gonna do when they catch the intruder

So many options. The correct answer has been said all through this thread. Whatever firearm you’re comfortable shooting, the one you pick up and it goes right into shooting position in your hands.

Practice, practice, practice, then buy more ammo and practice more.
When your shooting is instinctively done, no thought, just bang on target, you’re there.
I’m just a gun enthusiast, I don’t live and die with my guns, thank goodness. Running around in the dark house pretending to shoot everyone that’s not there...... poor neighbors.

There are a lot of good suggestions in this thread, but there are few all-in-one solutions. Are you planning on having the firearm on you at home? Or accessible in some locations? Are you preparing for a solo home invasion, or larger scale rioting and destruction? Are you willing to train, or do you need the most fool proof option?

Think through your likely threat concerns and your likely training plan and then follow that.

Nice P80! I've got a set of the Truglo fiber optic/tritium sights on my G19 and have been happy with them. They're probably five years old at this point and still bright. They work well and make the gun easy to see when it's dark.

The factory Glock night sights can be picked up pretty inexpensive and any local Glock dealer should be able to install them for you or Glock will install them for you if you send the gun or slide to them. I don't recommend them though, I don't find them to be very bright or last very long compared to otehr brands. If you're on a tight budget, the factory non-tritium metal sights can be bought cheaply from places like Brownell's or MidwayUSA and are better than the junky plastic factory sights.

Thanks, this is my first ever build and being a bit of a traditionalist, I went with the all black. Maybe the next one will be fancy colors.

I picked up the Olight the other day from a friend that scored it on Ebay, new in the box. Since I'm in Maryland CC is out of the question. So fro the range or in a drawer, everything fits perfectly in my OneTigris molle holster.

So the final piece of the puzzle are better open sights. I looked at a weapon with a red dot, well, green, with multiple functions. It was ok, but I felt like it was more of a shoulder weapon thing. Maybe I need more exposure with them. But for now I want something nicer than the OEM open sights without breaking the bank. The TruGlo seems like a great buy. I just have no experience with them so I want to see them in person first. I want to compare the different colors too.

    Thoughts on these:

I bought a laser training thing to use between range trips. Far from actual training, but it really helps with grip and trigger control. Plus I can use it anytime I want.

When I bought my Sig P365 the first of May, I was shooting low left. I'm getting better. Can only practice at 27' that's as long as my living room is.

I prefer the second set for the reasons mentioned, they show up better to my eyes in all conditions thus are faster to acquire and get on target. Try a set before you buy though if possible, everyone's eyes are different and unfortunately they change as we get older too. Lots of good brands out there as well. if you think you may add a suppressor in the future you may want to consider suppressor height sights.

Shit, I had a entire page of a response, thought it saved and then thought I was typing it on another thread.........I am getting burnt out.........Ok, I will cut it short.

Truglo seems to be very nice. I think for the money the combination fiber optic & tritium sights are their best offering.
They also design their rear sights to allow you to rack the slide one handed. Not that that should be a sell point but it is nice knowing it's possible.

Some of the competition offer longer warranties or make greater longevity claims. However after doing my research the properties of the element tritium itself is pretty much all the same grade. Basically they are all rated to last 10 years, degrading 50% by then. That's a long time.

So for me it comes down to function, fit, durability, features. Price also factors in and I don't intend to go broke on this purchase, which is completely possible.

The other manufacturers aka competition, all seem to have good products too so I am just going to keep looking at and averaging the 5 star review totals for now.

The TFX™ PRO TRITIUM/FIBER-OPTIC DAY/NIGHT SIGHTS are at the top of my list currently.

What I'd like to get opinions on are these "Ghost" rear sight setups. These seem very interesting and I have to wonder if these allow you to get on target quicker or allow more room for error?

The Ultimate Arms Gear Pro 3 Dot Tactical Combat Target Glock Front And Rear Ghost Ring Sight Set seem to be a great choice but I can't find them anywhere.

These are very similar so I suppose they would be a good alternative:
    https://www.amazon.com/Ameriglo-Glock-Ghost-Ring-Green/dp/B00162S1G6

There is a Tritium version of these but I can't find them anywhere:
