Not a great look for the Tacoma, tbh.

i was thinking that, but the guy driving doesn't look like he really knows what to do. no flag on his truck, I thought they were required for the dunes. Not sure if those are stock tires, but idk if he's aired down. I get wanting to go out and have fun in the sand, but it doesn't look like he was really prepared. Could happen to any vehicle. Bunch of other videos of people in more outfitted rigs getting stuck in the same area

Yeah, he should have had a flag, but I think he said he was aired down. I think there was a traction control option that would have simplified the situation. Why not go 4 hi in that situation?

I was curious about the same thing but someone in the comments said something about the ability to get the traction control system shut off in 4lo. Idk how 3rd gens work, don’t have one and don’t wheel with people who do so I can’t speak to that, but I can tell from the video the issue getting it out was definitely cause the traction control was killing power

This has nothing to do with the Tacoma. This was 100% the driver, and it nearly always is.

I'd say that's pretty typical. Some guy buys a brand new truck that the dealer told him has some cool buttons that make you a super awesomer offroader guy. Guy takes it out off roading and gets it stuck because he has no idea what he's doing.

Traction control, crawl control, and all that stuff does squat if you don't know how to pick lines, and know your (and your truck's) limits. Seems like he doesn't even really know how to use those fancy buttons anyway.

Guy goes out to the dunes with no flat, no shovel, and no traction aids. I wonder if he even had water...

This is a classic example of those fancy 3rd gen widgets giving novice drivers a false sense of security.

My favorite is when Matt drives out something that someone thinks is stuck. Also, he used a winch in a recent recovery.

Totally!! "So you're not going to use your jeep to pull me out?" "Nope, get out and let me drive."

I've watched too many of his videos. I landed on it researching the Yankum Ropes.

Did you see the recent one where he drove out the Jeep without a clutch?

I saw that one last night. First, I'm surprised and glad the kid could drive a stick. 2nd, hopefully he learns how to do what he just saw.

I can certainly drive a stick, but I didn't know that trick. From what I understood, it works if the clutch engages and you can just shift at the appropriate RPM?

Yea pretty much. I used to mess with my jetta doing this. In 1st, hit like 3500-4000 rpms, pull the shifter to neutral no clutch, rpms should go down. rev the gas a bit back to like 3000 rpms and pop it in second no clutch. ive done it up to 3rd before, but it should work all the way through. idk the actual term for it. hot shifting maybe?

disclaimer, i was 17 and it was a shitty jetta. no tranny issues for the next 8 years, but dont get mad at my if your stuff breaks

I saw in the comments some truckers were calling it "floating the gears" and said they do it all the time.

    Same crap everyone else got
That's how you drive a big rig. You only use the clutch when you start and stop. To change gears you float and rev match. Or they would have to double clutch and that would cause a knee replacement earlier in their career if that did that.

In my experience it all depends on the truck, I drive a very large variety of CDL sized trucks as I work for a tow company with everything some simple manual transmissions to 18 speeds. Some trucks I have to double clutch just to get into gear, some only reverse, most the time you can shift by floating the gears or a single clutch to make it a little more forgiving. Once you start floating gears tho, it becomes a habit and you forget to clutch no matter what you drive.
