Drive smart, stay off the mounds and dunes, look for flat areas where possible. Despite the embarassment, you at least have a way out.

Yeah, you want more surface area, as much as possible. Smaller area sinks in and sand envelopes.

This weekends trip to pismo i'm going to try out cardboard under the wheels If/when i get stuck, idk if that'll work but worth a try. I don't have any old carpet or wood, but plenty of cardboard. haha

I've done it before at South Padre Island with my PreRunner SR5 4X2 on stock Dunlop. The only thing I can say is know the limits of your truck! I stayed off the really soft sand, but the kids and I had a blast when I was doing donuts in the slightly harder damp sand...

No, no, no, what will that do?...

Let the air out of your tires... 10-8 psi and drive... a board, rug, or whatever is only good for however long it is, then you are still stuck...

Let the air out, and drive where you need to go (no sudden turns or slamming on the brakes when deflated). Have a good gauge and get a good 12v pump to refill.

Yeah that makes sense, i plan on airing down to those numbers as soon as i get there.
I figured just to get me going to get momentum. One you have momentum and rolling you can drive to a better place to stop. Thats what i figured anyway:confused:

    Thats not dumb at all.

Honestly I dont quite understand all this. If you like to go on beaches and do other off-roading, why buy a 2wd?

There is no way I would take a 2wd on the beach. I have seen 4x4 stuck on the beach here in NC,

9psi rear 13psi front, took it to pismo(beach and dunes), didnt get stuck once. Went everywhere including up hills in the super soft stuff, never had an issue. 2wd no locker. Air pressure is what its all about. 4x4s that didnt air down were getting stuck. Pics and vids to come.

So gist of the story is, no matter how deep the sand 2wd without a locker can do it with AT tires aired down enough. :)

you might have a problem if you aren't steady and gentle on the throttle. Definitely drop the tire pressure, like others have mentioned, it makes a big difference.

Man you cheated!!!:D its raining and the sand gets compacted and forms a hard top layer when it rains. Although tire pressure does make a difference you had extra help. Nice video :)
