Okay everyone this is my first post on TW so I'll try my best to explain whats going on.

I have installed a used TRD supercharger kit on my Tacoma. It has 97k miles on it and I definitely got a great deal on it. It has the 2.85" URD pulley on it.

    The problems...
My powerband is very spotty. I floor the vehicle going on to the local highway (freshly paved and 75 mph limit) and I can notice that my vehicle is pulling harder at lower rpms up to around 4500 until it sorta falls on its face in terms of power.

My transmission is hanging in 4th gear and revving at around 3100 rpm for several moments before revving up higher and shifting hard. (Vehicle has 87k miles and never had this problem before moving to pennslyvania for college, had it before S/C install)

    What I have installed.
    - AFE freeflow rebel exhaust, stock y pipe, stock cats.
    - AFE CAI
other than those 2 items and the supercharger kit the vehicle is stock.

How do I fix these problems? I feel like my vehicle is incredibly restricted and after adding the CAI and exhaust I have noticed a significant better powerband.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Update, vehicle seems to pull harder whenever the AC is off and at night. Not quite sure about the correlation between those 2 factors and why my truck is giving me issues.

post this in the performance and tuning thread, those guys know a lot about the magnuson/TRD supercharger. I'm sure someone will be able to help you out. They've definitely helped me I'm the past with my supercharger problems. Good luck!

Couple of questions, what work along with the supercharger was done?

They run different spark plugs and injectors.

It requires a reflash of the ECM.

I'm running NGK iridium spark plugs. I also did the injectors that were supplied with the kit (orange ones) however, I did not change the spark plugs from the N/A build and the F/I build. I asked the previous owner of the kit and he said the current ones were fine.

The gap has to be less at 0.8 mm (0.032”) the standard v6 is usually 0.040"

Definitely do some reading on our pages, I have limited supercharger experience but I know the plugs are critical.

I'll go ahead and do this tomorrow, whether or not it fixes the problem its a critical piece I missed after reviewing the instructions! Thank you very much for pointing it out.

You ABSOLUTELY need to change out spark plugs and have a smaller gap than stock.

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but given the previous owners spark plug response, had the truck be reflashed with a tune for the supercharger?

the TRD is a twin screw correct? Those things get hot as well and with warmer weather, it’ll heat soak if you just keep romping on it.

I feel like we need a list of support mods done when the truck was updated to FI. And if you hear any sort of pinging, you need to park it until you can check out the tune

Okay, I'll go ahead and lay out everything for you.

This guy sold me the kit and rewelded the belt tensioner assembly. (turns out the vehicle was in a collision) so I had to take it to Toyota and got raped for a new assembly as I couldn't find any in stock anywhere.
The fuel pump (after reading on the performance and tuning forum thanks Tennesee98 for giving me the advice) I have come to the conclusion I will be replacing that but I don't know what to buy.
AFE CAI, AFE 3" exhaust (from the y pipes, everything else is stock).
    The orange injectors were installed.
The TRD is a twin screw I believe, I didn't tear it apart because I know nothing about forced induction.

    Tomorrow mods:
I will be replacing all 6 spark plugs and gapping to 0.032"

Was the computer reflashed? This is a must.

As far as fuel is concerned, it sounds like you have the injectors, but yeah, you probably need to upgrade your fuel pump. I don’t know enough about the Tacoma with forced induction to give you a good answer on that. I can just give you basics based off of what I knew in the cobra world. I came from the cobra world (twin screw and modded)

Did you install the low temp radiator and coolant pump with the s/c? Is the pump running?

Yes, I also put a bottle of chill charger in the reservoir and filled with RO/DI (marine water, cleaner than distilled)

Without a higher flow fuel pump, it falling flat after 4500rpms may be due to fuel starvation.

Agree with the spark... if you could track down who installed - that would be a great start.

Sorry guys for the late response, been on and off work lately.

yes, tacoma was reflashed with the TRD s/c tune. I’m going down to see justdsm to fix up the rest. I’m sort of questioning the tune quality though, it still feels as if a few things are off because when i floor it, it pulls then stops then pulls again and stops. Sorta weird like at one point I have power and another it’s like it’s n/a

I reached out to him and he had the same setup I’m running (exhaust, air intake) and he said he was having lean issues. I want to find a AFR to install ASAP with my walbro 255 and the new spark plugs I’m throwing in. I do have a boost gauge though which I’ll be installing soon hopefully. Also he was running a stock fuel pump. Combined with the 2.85” URD pulley that’s on the tacoma I can sorta put two and two together here. So I’m thinking I can go ahead and install it and pay the money for justDSM to look over it.

thanks again everyone for giving me advice, I’m new to the s/c game and I know nothing about it. Any tips, tricks, mods, anything is helpful.
