I'll take this up with the Dealership but we'd like to know ourselves before dropping off our truck. TRD Sport that has less than 200 miles on it and we've been noticing oil remnants about 3" in diameter on the driveway right below the passenger side rear shock base, it's clear oil and smells something close to wd40 although a bit thicker in consistency. Shock says "made in Mexico", I wish the Hitachi shock was made in Japan.

I believe it's oil leakage from the shock coming from under the shock's upper black shroud. Idk, but I don't think service prep would shoot up into the shock shroud to cure a squeak from the start.

I'm pretty sure it's not brake fluid squirting out from somewhere as to the smell of it. From my experiences brake fluid doesn't smell near like WD40.

my 2016 leaked with about the same amount of mileage. dealer replaced it but not until i took it in so they could see it then go back after they got one in. that was late 2015 so by now i would think they stock them = 1 trip to the dealer.

Your Japanese truck might have been made in Mexico.

My buddy went to install brand new Fox 2.0 suspension on his 2nd Gen on Sunday. He found one of the rear shocks leaking in the bag, made in the USA.

Yeah, our vin points to "made in Mexico", the Hitachi shock says "made in Mexico" too.
I have confirmed it's a leaking shock. I cleaned up the oil on driveway, used the open tailgate mimicking road bounce. 20 minutes later another little puddle of oil under the shock.

I don't know how much oil the shock lost, So far it seems to bounce normally, idk? What would be the symptoms of a shock low on oil or with a leak, loss of pressure? Bounce? I figure the leaf springs keep the back of the truck level side to side?

They soften up when they leak and get more bouncy. Very normal type of failure and it will be covered under warranty, you have nothing to worry about.

If a shock looses any amount of oil, it is bad. These Hitachi shocks are non-serviceable sealed units.
