after having paid the premium for a Tacoma gen 3. I probably won’t do it again. If my truck got totaled tomorrow and I needed a new vehicle I’d probably be in a frontier (19 not the new shenanigans). Maybe f150 but probably mid size. Maybe a diesel Colorado. If it was another Tacoma an SR at most with the 4 cylinder. That is actually a great engine.

my coworker bought a salvage title terrain. o_O:thumbsup::rofl:

I like the mpg of a hybrid but it’s like Rhode Island winters. Half ass. Either give me electric or give me a normal drivetrain without regen brake shenanigans. If I’m doing an oil change on an IC engine, don’t give me a computer program to bleed the brakes.

    Looking good!!

ever watched some of the other British panel shows? Richard ayoade is on some of them on a rotation. My favorite is QI. My wife is a fan of would I lie to you as well.

I’ll do the same. Mines not doing terrible. Our old rhododendron is doing great but our new one is lackluster I hope it takes. :anonymous:

We replaced Linda's 2005 Rav4 last year after 11 years with a 2014. She loves it and it definitely feels like it's got more of an "attitude" than the 2005 did. Gets 27-28mpg in 50-50 driving too.

Once I finally pay off my Tacoma my plan is to buy either Subaru or Rav used and keep the truck to learn how to tinker, haul kayaks, and tow when needed. Plus when the wife and I finally have kids, hauling to family around will be better than the Tacoma. For whatever reason I dig the subie crosstreks along with the new ravs

yeah newer cars are getting great mpg alone without hybrid.

I have future plans. It involves two vehicles. Small and big but I’m still between the two. By big I mean Jeep or Tacoma or something for the trails. Probably not a raptor unless I move to the desert and even then, that’s a maybe at best. Small car I’m still really wanting an FRS or BRZ. Same thing different badge. But by the time comes where I can actually have two vehicles and one is as nice as that the Supra will be within reach. Also the Porsche Cayenne. Surprisingly not horrible reliability and dirt cheap on the used market. Right now a single Tacoma does the trick but we’ll see what the future brings :D

Shit, the 2005 we got 5 adults and a grill/coolers in the back for a concert. The 2014 is even more roomy.

Hers has the 6 speed auto and it really drives nice even in regular mode, when I throw it on Eco on the highway cruising it hits 30mpg or more no sweat. Ain't nothing wrong with that, my truck is 23 or so in the hotter weather

In your last like 2-3 responses you've had 20 different game plans for your future cars. I think you just need to go rob a car max and take them all :rofl:

@zjcas How are those ones an improvement over working on a taco or towing with a taco or fitting your family in a taco??!?!??

If you wanted to just get a fun small car to tinker with sure, but I don't think any of the options you named have a single advantage in any area you mentioned over Tacoma's. Well maybe the space one if you don't have a DC.

    What am I missing?

now you see why I have no idea what I’m doing :p Jeeps Trucks Raptors Fieros Supras who knows.

I have been drawn to the Miatas too there’s a huge aftermarket/mod scene to them. And they’re decent vehicles.

I'm with ya 100% if someone looked at my search history they'd probably think I'm 5 different people sharing a computer.

soooooo many options makes me crazy :goingcrazy:

Money however, (or lack of) keeps most of them as "long term plans"

Whatever you do, don't look at the trade in values of your current ride. Used car market is in the toilet right now. Best wait until a bit of a rebound.

Both sides tanked though, so if I got say -3k on my trade, I'd also be able to pull -3k on the new vehicle.

Considering I would want to keep a bigger/trail vehicle, I'm thinking I'll keep the Tacoma ~10 years then make it a trail rig + small car after that. Downside is I am a bit more practical than I should be, I'd want to get a hatchback as the small car :(. Oh well, I'll just get 3! Tacoma, Hatch, and Supra :p

It's actually not as bad as you'd think, at least it wasn't for us. We just traded in my wife's 2016 Escape for a 2019 Flex. The price they had on their car was really low, especially for the trim package it had on it. I was really nervous they were going to rape us on our trade but was pleasantly surprised. Very little negotiation, I was happy with how it all worked out.

Just out of curiosity, I just looked on KBB - they don't even have the 2020 tacoma for trade in value yet :p

Well, if you are all paid off then yes. But for the first time in my life I'm upside down in a vehicle. Not like I really care, I don't pay for much of a chunk of my truck but negative equity kinda screws up any good bargaining power.

The Escape we traded was getting up there in mileage and pretty close to a base model. I think it was one of those vehicles that had depreciated about as much as it was going to. It's not like we were trading in a vehicle that cost $40-50k new and they depreciated it down to $10k. The car was $20k brand, spanking new so it could only go down so far.

...Which is part of why I like the Porsche Cayenne as a fun car, they're like 8 grand for a car that went for 75+ 10 years ago, they drop like a cement turd in a bucket.

My uncle has been doing that for a while. He's been buying and selling used sports cars for a while because the bottom drops out for cars like that. His current 'fun' car is a 911, just got rid of a Macan. He picks them up for less than a Miata, runs them a couple years and sells for close to what he bought them for, goes and finds another. He had an S2000 a while ago, that was my favorite of the cars he's owned. The newer Porches are faster and more refined, but that S2000 was more fun to drive.

Yeah, and the Cayenne is moderately reliable too, it's a VW at this point. Problem is my preferred BRZ/FRS is not a hatchback and would be a PITA with the dog, and those actually hold some value :(
