I'm thinking sometime in the Fall, I'll be shopping for a hybrid bumper/winch combo.

Well, we finally got my 2nd gen completely repaired and cleaned, to hand off to my son for his 16th birthday! He was really tickled pink to see it all put back together, it's like a whole different truck! He's coming along rather quickly in learning to drive a 6 speed!

That awesome passing your old truck down to your son. I did the same thing with my son. He really enjoyed driving a manual. The girls thought it was cool that he know how to drive it.

Thanks Maner! My son is really happy to get this one. He picked it over his paw paw's 2008 Silverado, so that made me proud. As a kid, he and his little brother has spent hours in the access cab portion, bouncing back and forth as we were trail riding! lol

I kind of like to retain much of the factory look on my vehicles but I have to say that those are super nice looking parts. As a very particular machinist who has done his fare share of knurling, those look exceptional.

I took some manual milling classes at the local community college knurling was pretty difficult. Especially since some of those knurled pieces on those knobs are delrin sleeves. You should go check out his thread it really is some nice work.

The machining is what caught my attention. If I still had my manual, I would have ordered a 316 stainless knob with a solid brass insert. Talk about a HEAVY ass shift knob, which I know, would totally change the way the trucks shifts through the gears. Unfortunately and fortunately, my son drives that truck now. Mine's an AT, so I got an aluminum one with the delrin ring around it. Very quality work here, I saw some videos and was impressed!

I did and am impressed. Very nice product. Knurling a sphere is a bit mind boggling to me. I actually suspect he's cutting it on a 4th or 5th axis machine instead of knurling.

I believe he does have CNC machines. I remember seeing some pics in that thread. I'm sure it will look and feel even better in person!

To further specify my comment about knurling, a cut knurl is probably nicer than a pressed knurl and I'm not aware of a way to press knurl a sphere.

Only way to do these on a manual mill would be pretty involved. Build a gear train and link the X-axis with a dividing head at the proper ratio. It would be great for bragging rights and an instagram post, but making the parts would drive anyone insane.

It's actually embarrassingly simple. You touched on it earlier, 4th axis CNC.

This is the program right here, 3D trace path (tool on center of curve).

The way those are cut reminds me of checkering a gun stock. That's pretty cool.
