    I just got it!
I'm currently failing University courses and I'm thinking about dropping out and taking a 5 month carpentry program at the local college.

What do you think of this? Are there any carpenters out there? Is there enough money to live a decently lavish life and raise kids?

Man....the only way that I could see it being very good (money wise) is if you opened up your own shop or something along those lines.
    Maybe I'm wrong.

I've been a carpenter for 20 years , you can make money at it , but in this economy , it is the guys with at least 10 years experience that are still working .

I think the trades are a great place to find a career , but don't do it if you think you are going to be an overnight millionaire . That isn't going to happen .

Brent , I just saw you are in Canada , where are you ?

Word! I'm a Carpenter in Vegas, and my bro-in-law is my boss, and I have a sketchy schedule. Are you going to school for something that doesn't hurt when the economy is shit?

    I just got it!
To answer as many questions as I can:

I've always been amazingly handy, and I've always really enjoyed building things out of wood that normally you would hire a professional carpenter to do. It's one of my favorite things to do, and I think it may be my passion or something. So that's good.

Some people in my area who have gone through the same program I want to apply for are really happy so far. Bad idea, still? I'm really tempted.

And if I stay in school for Environmental Design, it's so competitive in every stage that it will be 2037 before I graduate.

I'm in Manitoba. But I was thinking about getting a job in Kenora, Ontario after I finish the courses. The apprenticeship program.
