Just sold 50% of my NCLH for $18.35 each; put in a buy order at $17.50. We’ll see.

I think ARI and CIM were both kind of iffy about dividends. They yield is so high compared to their value, I expect both to cut. That's obviously why I sold, to get ahead of it. If I am wrong, oh well, the discounts on better companies are so deep you can just about break even if you buy immediately. I added up dividends over time and realized I actually got paid quite a bit, and it cut the capital losses down.

Yea, what I see with ladr is the slashed dividend was still a 10%, so it seems people are going after it. And I got out about .90 a share more than it was when they announce the cut. I’m hoping ARI doesn’t fully eliminate it, and I might get a little more waiting. But now that it’s risen so much the last 2 weeks I’m not sure. I might just get out. Weighing my options. Part of my hesitation is the crazy circumstances that led to cut dividend. If it comes back quickly, I’ll be a little bummed I didn’t buy more while it was down.

When I retire, I can't be wondering if my income might drop. This is a constant process for me to create a reliable income. I am learning, and it is expensive, but I am ok with it!

My #1 reason for staying in the military for as long as I did.

My retirement and disability, covers my mortgage and most of my living expenses.

Disability and dividends would cover me if I just sat at home most of the time. I am using this time to try to get it as high as I can.

That’s definitely how I’ve been approaching the majority of my stocks.

Within 5 years of retirement I'll be at 90/10 at the highest (90 bonds 10 stocks) for stocks, maybe even less. Play money is play money still sure, but actual "living income" will be what I have stashed away by then and won't be in the markets anymore by that point.

I am trying to retire on 100% stocks, only using money that comes from dividends, not selling. That's why I am working so hard to get it right.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still working as a defense contractor and international arms sales pays well. :drevil:

That’s a great plan. Takes significant planning and forward thinking. And you absolutely need to trust they will come through with dividends. I think this covid situation provides a good look at what can be counted on. And allowed picking up more shares for less to increase your future income.

I haven’t been keeping up with NCLH, are they relatively stable?

I splurged today and got another share of Boeing, got a partial share of T, and sold my IMGN for a $0.30/share profit and set a buy in order once they drop again.

Ballsy move, I respect it and would totally agree. But realistically by the time I go for retirement, and by the time in retirement my principal is wiped out, I'd like to be dead.

Same here, I will probably never stop working so I am not sure what I mean by "retire." When your passive income matches your expenses, it gets easier to grow the passive income. All earned money goes into stocks for me for some periods of time, but there's always stuff I gotta buy too.

The thing with dividends, unlike bonds, is the growth. My current portfolio is growing dividends at about 7.5% per year. If that average held, and I was living on them (not reinvesting at all), my income would increase by 7.5% per year. Bonds are less risky but don't increase payouts like that.

If my gambling stocks payoff, I'm looking into vacation rental property as a future investment.

We just spent the weekend at a lake rental and these things virtually pay for themselves. Plenty of research has to be done and location is key.

My co-worker has one and he started generating income on day 1.
