I backed out of a parking spot and down hill slightly. When truck finally stopped, brakes made a sound. (Attached video) I pulled up the hill 20-25 feet and stopped. Rolled back down hill and applied the brakes, same noise. Did it 2-3 more times and left rear wheel seized.

Tried forward and reverse with no change. Tried 4lo forward and reverse with no change.

Truck was dragged up onto the flatbed. Got to the dealer and truck reversed without issue off the flatbed.

Tries to duplicate issue at the dealer. Makes similar noise, just not as loud. Leaving it for them tomorrow.

    Thoughts?

No idea without being able to look at it personally but more then likely a sticking wheel cylinder or parking brake on that wheel if I had to guess.

E Brake cable seized inside it's sleeve. ?? Corrosion and/or routing of cable created a "drop" loop for water to collect and rust the cable . JMO

Searching for similar issues, a lot point to water. I washed it Sunday and baked it into the garage. Didn’t drive until today. Brakes didn’t seem stuck or hung up going forward.

Never heard this noise or any when stopping after backing up.

Did you apply the parking brake after washing it? I've had mine seize up from this scenario a few times now from what I've heard is just flash rust. I take something metal and stick it through the wheel onto the drum and whack it with a hammer a few times. Freed it up every time. It's an easy try and hopefully fix.

I had this issue on my old Subaru Forester. After I washed it if I didn’t drive it right away the next time I drove it the back 2 wheels would seize up. I would always just give it some gas or put it forward then reverse and it would break loose drive perfect afterword. I chalked it up to water in the caliber pistons freezing them up. Didn’t cause me any long term issues drove the vehicle for another 3 years.

Drum adjusted too tight, parking cable not adjusted correctly, weak return and hold-down springs, hanging up on shoe boss, shoe contamination.

Yes, parking brake was on. Always use it.

I'd assume if it was water related that the minimal amount of water would've dried or evaporated after 48 hours.

I'm thinking it's "cumulative" - or other wise stated. It gets Wet all the time , when driving in the rain, winter slush, etc. I you are in a snow/ice area - the road salts get in there as well. Takes some time (months/years?) for the corrosion to build then one day it does not release. YOU have a LOT more force engaging the brake - than the brake springs have to release it .... JMO

There is one or two threads on this Locking rear wheels after washing, launching the boat, long term parking with brake on, etc. But thay all seem to point to the brake cable not releasing at the drum end. .....

Your parking brake is seized. Very common issue and you’ll find dozens of threads just like yours. Trying pressing the brake a few times really hard and jiggle the parking brake a few times. Also, if you have 4wd, try driving forward and braking the break lose.

If the easy stuff fails, you can try giving the drum a a wack with a soft blow mallet, and/or giggling the barking brake cables around.

last but not least, if the truck has been lifted, and the parking brake cables were not relocated, this could be causing a bind and the root of your issue.

Good luck! You’re certainly not alone with your parking brake woes.

The parking brake released twice since last being wet. The wheel seized after after rolling backwards and applying the brakes at a normal pressure. The emergency brake shouldn't be the issue since it was not in play when the wheel seized, but who knows.

4lo wouldn't budge the wheel, just drug it along. Pulling it onto the flatbed somehow caused the wheel to release.

Still waiting to hear back from the dealership.

If the shoe adjustment is too close and hitting the brakes in reverse auto-adjusted them closer, it'll lock up.
Mine was only adjusted 5 clicks from locked; spec is 15 clicks.
