with the covid restrictions placed on me I cannot leave the state (also NMW has a COVID ME residents only at this time), and have been itching for some offroad time.

Wondering if anyone has a Sunday-Wednesday off one of these weeks and would like to make a long trek through NMW from Greenville up as far north as we can get Estcourt station (in Maine). is the goal. then head back south east towards allegash/St Francis (chamberlains market), or Coffins general store (north of ashland, Me for fuel up). then onto 11S to bangor, and home from there.

this trip would require some conservation of fuel as the trip looks to be some 200+ miles from Greenville to Estcourt area (not sure we can actually get to escourt due to placement of the northern checkpoints..) and back down to allagash. I typically carry 10-12gallons in 2 jerry cans, I will probably carry another for this trek totalling 18 gallons plus the trucks 22gallons. I typically fair about 14-18MPG depending on terrain. I would have to get worse than 9MPG to get under 300miles.

I am still looking at campsites, as I would like to hit up verified road access sites. would be at least a day and a half to get up to the estcourt area, and then I imagine a half day drive out to allegash to rt11south and home from there. if we find the roads are slow going and fuel consumption is too much for the trip to estcourt we can divert and go with a direct route to allegash/St. Francis.

anyone game? again due to restrictions on NMW this is for Maine residents only, This can happen on my long weekends off (i WORK EVERY OTHER WEDNESDAY-SATURDAY 6-AM-6:30pm). so such as this weeked June 7-10, June 21-24, and so on... if anyone is interested PM me.

I just did this, Sunday to today. Good frost Sunday and Monday nights. Stayed 2 nights on the St. John River at 9 Mile (former bridge). Explored a little from there. Spent last night at Musquacook Lake. Drove out Realty Road to Ashland and home today.

I went to Baker lake, and up around to Eagle lake/ghost trains, roads were ok, little rough, but easily able to do 45mph on my stock suspension on most sections. further north is a mystery to me, I have not gone further north than Oxbow Rd.

They were all pretty good. Although, they are getting ready to replace some culverts in that area. You may run into that.

Soo I got bored at work. and did some mapping, and route planning. looking like 237 miles from indian hill trading post to estcourt, and another 41 miles from estcourt to get to Chamberlain marketplace on Rt 161 (theres a couple eateries here, and then another 20 miles or so to Fort Kent, and then hit Rt 11 south to bangor (almost 4 hours) or where ever you need to get to from there.

indina hill --> 20 mile checkpoint ---> golden rd (41 miles)
Golden rd --> Eagle lake (73 miles)
Eagle lake --> Churchill lake (12miles)
Churchill lake --> Realty rd. (22 miles)
Realty rd --> Cunlif Lake (14 miles)
Cunlif Lake --> Blanchette rd/Estcourt rd (16 miles)
Blanchette rd --> Estcourt (53 miles)

    total 236 miles

estcourt --> chamberlain market (nearest fuel) 41 miles

total from last fuel to nearest fuel 277miles

my drive from chamberlain mrkt to home in thomaston is about 5.5hrs 275 miles

In the past I've seen recommendations for off-road shops in the state but haven't been able to relocate those posts (admittedly, not particularly game for going through 158 pages on this thread to find it).

I'm have a 3rd gen DCLB with a cap & frequently bottom out the rear. No plans to do any real off roading so I'm happy with an AAL in the rear but leaning towards an 887 or 888 in the front to avoid looking like a rolling door stop. I'm comfortable doing the AAL & pretty sure I'm comfortable simply swapping the coilovers but where I know I'm not comfortable working solo is going ahead and swapping the needle bearing for a ECGS. This is what I'm either looking to have a shop do or recruit help from here--with a trade of green dead presidents &/or booze.

Post in the New England BS thread, if you don’t mind driving a few hours, there is at least a few folks that would help you out.

Where abouts in the state are you? (pretty sure I've asked this before..)

Im always down to help a fellow member out, especially for beer! :D

The needle bearing actually isn't a bad job if you have the ECGS puller. There are usually a few members around the N.E. area that will rent theirs out rather than having to buy a new one
Edit: hardest part for me was pulling the CV. And youll probably want to have a new inner seal on hand just in case, plus gear oil, and a seal driver kit for the new bushing

I'm in Farmingdale (JUST South of Augusta and willing to travel a few hours). My plan is throw the AALs on first & see which coil height I need up front. And that'll give me the time to coordinate tool rental & with you about working on the front.

    SR-71A: where are you again?
